That’s a wrap on the local competition season! 🥈

Huge congratulations to all the incredible competitors, and a massive thank you to all the agencies who hosted these events throughout the season.

We love these competitions because they do so much more than just test our skills. They are a cultivation and celebration of the unique ocean lifeguarding culture that makes the Outer Banks so special.

Beyond proud of our team for leaving it all on the sand and securing 2nd place overall this year. The dedication, grit, and heart shown by every single one of our guards was unmatched.

Attention all beach families! ☀️

We know the ocean can feel a bit intimidating, especially with younger children to look after. That’s why our friends at Corolla Lifesaving Association welcome and encourage all families and their children to join their S.E.A.L. (Safety Education and Aquatic Learning) program!

Our guards proudly take part in the S.E.A.L. program each week, and love helping teach your kids about rip currents, beach hazards, and marine safety! It gives kids the tools they need to make smart choices in the water, and it gives parents a little extra peace of mind.

Registration starts at 9:30 AM on-site, every Thursday, at the Lighthouse Bathhouse! The program runs from 10:00 AM to Noon and is open to all children ages 6–12. For full details, visit www.corollalifesaving.org.

Yesterday, Corolla Beach Rescue teamed up with Currituck Fire & EMS and Corolla Fire Rescue for a joint training exercise simulating a major sand hole collapse with trapped victims.

Staying ready for all beach hazards is our top priority, and having the resources and agency partnerships to practice these intense, real-life scenarios ensures our entire team is prepared for the unexpected. It was a seamlessly coordinated effort, but it also served as a stark reminder of why beach safety rules exist.

The danger of digging deep holes in the sand is real, fast, and incredibly heavy. A single cubic meter of dry beach sand weighs roughly 1.6 metric tons (1,600 kg), jumping to over 1.9 metric tons (1,900 kg) when wet.
