September 11, 2001 — A Day of Remembrance

Today, we pause to reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On that day, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost, including 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and many other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others.

We honor their courage, dedication, and selflessness, and we extend our deepest respect to the families and communities who continue to bear the weight of that loss.

As a fire service family, we remain steadfast in our promise to never forget. The legacy of their sacrifice continues to guide us in our mission to serve and protect.

🇺🇸 We will always remember. We will never forget.

Sometimes it’s a structure or brush fire…sometimes it’s a medical call…and sometimes it’s a sheared fire hydrant!

Thanks to the hard work from Truck 11, Engine 12, and NAVFAC…they were able to shutoff the water supply.

What a momentous moment today! We are proud to announce that FFDSD has added a new station to the department! Welcome Station 15! Station 15 is located at Naval Base San Diego 32nd St and will be adding to the support of protecting the base and its many ships. With the addition of Station 15, FFDSD now has 13 stations! We are committed to providing the best service and care to each installation and we know that the addition of Station 15 will only add in that mission.

As per tradition, FFDSD firefighters, naval personnel, and civilian employees, participated in the “push” ceremony. This is the tradition of physically pushing the first apparatus assigned to the fire station!

We are so grateful for all of the individuals that made this happen! The welders, electricians, painters, and all the contractors that aided in making Station 15 come alive, truly used their talents to support this mission.

We thank the commanding officer for his inspirational words and FFDSD’s Fire Chief for his words of encouragement as we embark on opening and staffing our new station!

Here’s to the new Station 15!!

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

As a fire department, we understand the meaning of service and sacrifice — and on Memorial Day, we stand in solemn gratitude with our fellow first responders and military families. Let us remember those who gave everything, not just today, but every day we raise our flag and serve our communities.

We are forever grateful.
