After an emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days. Being prepared means having your own food, water and other supplies to last for several days. Gather supplies for everyone living in your home. Don’t forget to consider the unique needs each person or pet may have in case you have to evacuate quickly. Update your kits and supplies based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control.

🔥Fire safety alert!🔥

Recently we received a 911 call for a resident who suddenly lost power to her home, and had a odor of smoke soon after. Upon our arrival, we noted the odor and began investigating the cause. We found a power strip(pictured below) with obvious signs of damage, as well as three circuit breakers that had tripped as a result of the overload.

This is a great reminder of how dangerous “daisy chaining” extension cords and power strips together can be. They are not designed or intended to work this way and are a common cause of fires 🔥 across the Nation.

This set up happened to have the following dangerous sequence:

Power strip 🔌 ➡️non-grounded extension cord🔌➡️grounded plug adapter🔌➡️power strip. All strips had multiple items plugged into them including a mobile space heater hot (which draws a LOT of power).

This resident was EXTREMELY lucky there were no flammable 🔥 items located near the involved power strip. Often times there are couches, curtains or other available fuels nearby that can easily catch 🔥.

Please take a look in YOUR home or business and see if you may have a similar scenario currently.

Fire 🔥 prevention is essential!
