The final preparations are underway for Birdies on the Bay!

We spent the day out planning, preparing, and making those final arrangements for our Birdies on the Bay golf tournament benefiting Special Olympics Texas on September 12th.

Naturally, all that hard work required a lunch stop at Nolan’s. We did what any responsible tournament planners would do and passed on dessert…

But Nolan’s knew better.

Somehow, they knew we were going to need a carrot cake sugar boost to power through the rest of the day — so they basically guilted us into getting it. And, well… we’re glad they did.

Now we’re fueled up and ready to finish getting everything in place for September 12th!

When I ask our athletes about their favorite Special Olympics sport, 9 out of 10 will say BOWLING!

Our teams have already started training for this year's Area 2 Bowling competition on Nov. 12-14. We were excited to join Gary's Raiders for their Thursday night unified league/practice. These folks definitely know their way around a bowling lane and have a blast while they're doing it.

Special Olympics was proud to join Voluntexas for the Changemakers Service Fair last week.

This event was an opportunity to meet other area nonprofits, learn about their missions and discuss potential areas for collaboration.

We are proud to be included in such a dedicated group of organizations and are excited about working with other Coastal Bend nonprofits to serve our community!

We are currently seeking 4 person golf teams for Birdies on the Bay as well as event sponsors. Proceeds from this event will help to fund events and competitions for SO athletes around the Coastal Bend.

🌟 The Next Generation of Leaders Is Just Getting Started! 🌟

Tonight, some of our amazing athletes from the Victoria Shining Stars took an exciting step forward as they began classes to become part of the Special Olympics Athlete Leadership Program (ALPs)!

Through ALPs, these athletes will develop important skills in leadership, public speaking, advocacy, and communication—preparing them to serve as ambassadors for Special Olympics, share their stories, speak confidently in front of others, and make a difference in their communities.

We couldn’t be more proud of each of them for stepping outside their comfort zones, challenging themselves, and embracing this opportunity to grow as leaders. We can’t wait to see all they accomplish!
