Sheriff J.C. Hooper and the Nueces County Jail were honored to celebrate the Corpus Christi Literacy Council’s 40th Anniversary and the incredible work they continue to do in our community.

We were especially honored to receive an award alongside Alimursal Ibrahimov and Judge Melissa Madrigal for the Second Chance Money Skills program, which is offered to individuals inside the Nueces County Jail.

Programs like Second Chance Money Skills provide more than education. They provide knowledge and tools that help individuals make better financial decisions and build a stronger foundation for life after incarceration.

September 11, 2001 is a day that remains etched in the memories of so many Americans.

If you were alive that morning, you likely remember exactly where you were and who you were with in those moments when our nation changed forever.

For those of us in law enforcement, September 11 carries a particularly heavy meaning. We remember the civilians whose lives were taken, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the countless men and women who answered the call to serve in the days, weeks, and years that followed.

As the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, we are proud to serve a community that understands the meaning of service and sacrifice. Today, we are grateful to see the Nueces County community come together to honor the lives lost and the heroes who ran toward danger when others were running away.
