Coastal Bend Community Foundation

Through additional donations and a history of stewardship, these assets have grown to over $128 million as of December 31, 2021.

Our Mission is to improve the quality of life in the Coastal Bend by building community endowment and addressing social, educational, environmental, and cultural needs through the awarding of grants and scholarships in our seven-county service area. The Foundation was established in 1981 as a project of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce with a donation of $150,000 from the Paul and Mary Haas

Foundation. The Foundation has awarded over $149 million in grants to charitable organizations and scholarships to students since it was founded. The Foundation serves Aransas, Bee, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio counties. The Coastal Bend Community Foundation is one of approximately 900 community foundations in the United States and one of over 500 which are accredited by the Council on Foundations National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations process nationwide. This accreditation ensures the Foundation has policies in place for financial stability and longevity, affirming continued commitment to its donors, grantees, and community.

💚 Meet Melody Nixon-Bice of Nueces County, a member of our Board of Directors and a dedicated community leader in the Coastal Bend.

As Executive Director of Brookdale Senior Living Corpus Christi South, Melody brings more than 30 years of experience in the service industry, with a background spanning sales, marketing, and operations. Her career includes leadership roles with Omni Hotels and Embassy Suites by Hilton.

Melody holds an associate degree in Business Administration and is a Certified Assisted Living Manager. With a strong commitment to servant leadership, she actively supports community initiatives throughout the Coastal Bend. We are grateful for the experience, leadership, and spirit of service she brings to the Foundation and the communities we serve. 💛

Last year, our Arnim Brothers Fund awarded $82,500 to support the development of a permanent Purple Heart Exhibit and Oral History Project at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. 💜

Created in collaboration with Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 598 and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Special Collections and Archives, the project preserves and shares the stories of Purple Heart recipients from across the Coastal Bend.

We’re grateful to support work that honors local veterans and preserves an important part of our region’s history for generations to come.

🚨2026 grant applications are now open🚨Last year, we awarded nearly $1.3 million through our Annual Grants program and the Arnim Brothers Fund, supporting nonprofits whose work strengthens communities across the Coastal Bend.

This year, nonprofits serving communities across our seven-county region are invited to apply for:
💛 Annual Grants — supporting Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Families & Children, Health, Human Services, and Public Good.
💛 Arnim Brothers Fund — supporting medical matters, historic preservation, and musical performance.

Applications are open through September 15 at 11:59 p.m. (CST).

💛 What a wonderful night celebrating the Coastal Bend! We were proud to celebrate Coastal Bend Day of Giving as The Bend Magazine’s 2026 Local’s List Best Annual Fundraiser alongside so many of the people and organizations that make our community special.

This recognition reflects what Day of Giving is all about: our community coming together to support local nonprofits and strengthen the place we call home.

💚 Meet Blake McDavid of Aransas County, a member of our Board of Directors and a dedicated community leader in the Coastal Bend.

As Vice President of GSM Insurors, Blake brings more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and a deep commitment to serving his community. A lifelong resident of Rockport, he is actively involved in local organizations that support the growth, health, and future of Aransas County.

Blake currently serves on the Aransas County Economic Development Corporation Board, the Sacred Heart School Board, and Aransas County Medical Services, Inc.
