Freedom Friday!🦅

We recently released a Red-Shoulder Hawk that was brought to us early summer! ☀️

We first noticed it didn’t have any injuries, but found out it was a juvenile so we started the rehabilitation process right away!

After a couple weeks, it was doing very well showing signs of natural behavior and appropriate weight. We transferred our patient to the flight cage where they showed signs of great mobility. It passed the Live-test exam and was eligible for release! 🦅

Follow us on our social media platforms for more updates on our patients! ✅

Hope to see everyone in November!

International Youth Day! 👫

Today we want to recognize all the young volunteers we get to have on our team! In fact, many of our volunteers being high school and college students! 👍

They help us out tremendously around the facility from preparing diets to doing tours! We are so grateful to have the oportunity to be giving them early hands-on experience with animals and animal rehabilitation. 🦅

We are so proud of our young volunteers and all the work they put into the facility! 💪

If you see our young volunteers around the facility, feel free to say “Hi” and Thank them for their hard work! ⭐️

Well, it’s that time of year again!!

We will be hosting our annual Sea Turtle Trot on October 10, 2026. See the flyer below for all information and ways to sign up to support us. Unfortunately, we are not able to host the Sea Turtle Festival, this year, due to the ongoing improvements at the Padre Bali Park pavilion. We are hopefully it will be back in full swing, next year. But you can still support us through the race and sponsorships this year. It will still be a great event. Keep an eye out on this page for information regarding sponsorships in the next few days. Thanks again for your continued support and hope to see you at the Sea Turtle Trot!

Wildlife Wednesday 🪶

Fun fact✅
The Red Shoulder Hawk is a Hawk native to the state of Texas, living primarily in East Texas as it prefers to live in moist woodlands. They are birds of prey, meaning they are carnivores and will hunt small amphibians, reptiles, insects, and mammals in order to feed! As their names suggest, they can be identified by their Red/Rust colored shoulders, black and white checkered pattern on their wings and tails, and the “windows” on the tip of their wings which are actually translucent, crescent-shaped patches that let light shine through while they fly! 🦅

As a matter of fact, we currently have a Red Shoulder Hawk at our facility under our care! It came in because a public supporter brought it to us believing it was injured because it couldn’t fly. But after a thorough checkup, we found no injuries. We did, however, find out it was juvenile just learning to fly! So we adjusted its diet appropriately, and monitored its behavior to make sure it is hunting and eating normally. We also put it in our flight cage to let it spread its wings and learn to fly on its own in a safe environment. We are glad to say its doing amazing in every aspect and should be ready for release soon! ✨
