Two of our Precinct 1 deputies recently completed the 6-day Valor Basic SWAT 1 course, conducted by Valor Law Enforcement Training.
The comprehensive training program covered structural approaches, breaching tactics and methods, breaching tools, team movement, tactical communication, role development, team leadership, weapon handling, gear selection, room entry tactics, and close-quarters weapon manipulation. Additionally, deputies received instruction on hallway movement, utilization of cover and angles within and outside structures, and effective room domination through team movement, speed, surprise, and violence of action.
The training also encompassed the proper deployment and use of ballistic shields, flash bangs, and CS gas during close-quarters battle operations, as well as problem-solving tactical dilemmas in confined environments. Further instruction included the use of gas masks, tactical fi****ms, low-light/no-light shooting drills, shooting principles with ballistic shields, drills while operating in gas masks, officer-down rescues, vehicle assaults, bus assaults, and coordinated teamwork in response to an active attack scenario on a school bus. The deputies also participated in voluntary CS gas exposure. Upon completing this course, the agency now boasts two SWAT-certified deputies. We take immense pride in all of our deputies for their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community.
