Wildfire destroys thousands of acres and threatens hundreds of homes across New Mexico each year. The Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) program helps residents be Ready with preparedness understanding, be Set with situational awareness when fire threatens, and to Go, acting early when a wildfire starts.

GET READY:

Being “Ready” for wildfire starts with maintaining an adequate defensible space around your home. Clear dry brush and vegetation away from the outside of your home starting in the 5-foot zone and working your way out to the 100–200-foot zone. Without this buffer, the fire will quickly spread through surrounding vegetation to your home. Consider fire resistant landscaping and hardening your home with fire-resistant building materials. Flying embers from a wildfire can destroy homes up to a mile away.

GET SET:

Prepare yourself and your home for the possibility of evacuation BEFORE wildfire arrives. Follow these simple steps to get “Set”:

Create a Wildfire Action Plan that includes evacuation planning for your home, family and pets

Assemble an Emergency Supply Kit for each person in your household

Fill out a Family Communication Plan that includes important evacuation and contact information

Stay informed by following local media, local fire alerts, and county emergency notifications.

GO!

If there is an active wildfire in your area, be prepared before it’s time to Go!
If time allows, review your Wildfire Action Plan and complete the Pre-Evacuation Preparation Steps in the RSG guide. Load your emergency supply kit and evacuation bags (including pet kits) into your vehicle and park facing the road for a quick exit. You don’t need to wait for an evacuation order. If you feel threatened, then evacuate early. When an evacuation order is issued, there is no time to waste. Ensure your bags and kit are in your vehicle, locate and load your pets, wear clothing that will protect you against heat and flying embers, and GO!

The Village of Corrales, in conjunction with the new Public Safety Emergency Communications Center, has a new public safety alert system called SCAN (Sandoval County Alerts and Notifications). Enrollment is simple and open to anyone, including residents and visitors to the area. You can either text 888777 with the keyword SANDOVALNM or visit their website at https://member.everbridge.net/index/93013422375032. It takes less than five minutes to get signed up. This system replaces the CODE RED alert system, which is no longer active for Sandoval County. Please make sure to get signed up in the new system so you can be alerted to any emergencies in your area.

Road closure and detour March 30 and March 31, 2026, if you use Coroval road or Priestly Road to either access Andrews lane or crossover Andrews Lane The road is down to one lane and may be closed at times for fire line installations. Seeking an alternate route is recommended, either East Meadowlark or East La Entrada would be the best route.

10:05 pm March 1st 2026. Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office has police activity on the east side of the river across from Bazan Loop on the very south end of Corrales. They have not found the individual they are looking for, as always recommended make sure you home and vehicles are secured and report any suspicious activity to 911.

Update 2/22/26 at 1:30 West Valverde is open. Thank you.
2/23/26 at 11:45 am. West Valverde between Corrales Road and Loma Larga is closed due to a hazard, which is a very large broken tree tangled in other branches above the road and powerlines. Residents who need to access their homes need to enter off of Loma Larga. There is no access at Corrales Road. I will update when the West Valverde is open.

Construction & Closure Notification Corrales Bosque. Beginning the week of February 2, 2026 MRGCD will be working in partnership with EMNRD Forestry Division to treat invasive species and reduce fuels throughout 100 acres of the Corrales Bosque. Hand crews will begin work on Wednesday February 4, 2026 in the north unit and move south throughout the three units, see attached picture on the flyer. Work will end the week of February 28, 2026. During this time, the bosque will be closed and the public should avoid these areas and herbicide and chainsaws will be in use. Signs will be placed on trailheads to identify work zones. Christmas Tree recycling. The Public Works department will be accepting live Christmas trees from Corrales residents to be chipped now through 3:30 Friday January 16th. Live trees with all decorations removed can be brought to the public works yard Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. You can access the yard by driving down the post office road, drive past the post office and through the gate

The Giving Tree at Village Hall is up and has tags for children’s Wishlist items and their needs such and clothing, coats, shoes and other essential items. We are working with families to get all Tag up on the tree and will be adding tags during the first week of December. You can also, email me at [email protected] label the email Holiday Food and Present Drive or call me 505-702-4182 Village Hall is open between 8am and 5pm Monday -Friday. They will close at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 and reopen on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 8:00 am If you know someone who needs some assistance this year, please reach out to me. If you would like to donate to the drive, there are several ways to help. You can make monetary donations to Kiwanians Club of Corrales Foundation, in the memo add " Fire drive", IN DATE non-perishable foods can be dropped at the Fire Station 4920 Corrales Road. Please check the dates, as we spend hours going through food and we must throw out any out-of-date items. Last year 5 years with everyone's support we have ordered the food through Curbside pickup and InstaCart. This allows us to make sure each family has items they want to eat and can be customized to their family’s traditions. The ability to use Curbside and Instacart has been wonderful, it makes sure families can get fresh, health fruits and vegetables along with staples, pantry items and complete meals for several weeks. If you want to donate perishables, please contact me so I can make sure I have room to store. This year we will be getting all presents and food out to families December 20th 21st and 22nd .
