Distracted Driving is Dangerous!

Today has brought in yet another submission to the long list of ‘what not to do’ while driving: preparing a protein shake🥤

Distracted driving is anything that takes your attention away from safe driving. Any activity you engage in while behind the wheel is a potential distraction and increases your risk of crashing.

Choose to make breakfast at home, not during your commute.

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our Nation.

As we gather with family and loved ones, we reflect on the reason we celebrate in the first place.

If you’re celebrating, we ask you to do so responsibly. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and always wear your seatbelt.

Memorial Day Holiday Enforcement Period 🚔

Memorial Day Weekend is a time to remember and honor the fallen. As families are traveling to gather together, we ask that you be mindful of safety on the roadway.

The CHP is launching a Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) beginning today May 22, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., ending on Monday May 25, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

During this period, officers will conduct targeted enforcement to identify reckless drivers and emphasize proper seatbelt use for all occupants.

Let’s all do our part to arrive and celebrate responsibly.

Law Enforcement Torch Run 2026 🏃‍♂️

CHP Marin Area had the pleasure of participating in this year’s Torch Run throughout Marin County to support Special Olympics.

Members of Law Enforcement from around the nation join hands to champion the cause of acceptance and inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities. It was an honor carrying the “Flame of Hope” in support of this meaningful community.

Looking forward to next year, already!

Cinco De Mayo Celebration Gone Wrong

This gentleman demonstrated the WRONG way to celebrate the holiday by driving under the influence while over twice the legal limit, with open containers in the vehicle, and by fleeing the scene after causing a crash on the freeway.

If you plan to celebrate, we recommend the correct way by designating a sober driver, beforehand. Save yourself and the rest of us on the road the trouble by making responsible decisions.

Drinking and driving is never the right choice.

Sight-seeing is NOT an emergency 🌉

The driver of this big rig was no where near his vehicle after he parked on the shoulder. He was found almost a mile away taking in the view of the bay on the Golden Gate Bridge!

Stopping on the shoulder of a freeway is dangerous and permitted only when your vehicle is disabled, when directed to do so by a peace officer, or in the case of an emergency.

Vehicle Equipment Safety Reminder 🚨

🛞The tires on your vehicle are designed with grooves in the tread which aid in channeling water away, lessening your chances of hydroplaning.

Your chances quickly become slim-to-none if tread has worn away. The result can be catastrophic.

In addition to proper tire maintenance - turn on your headlamps, increase following distance, reduce your speed, and stay alert during this stretch of wet weather.

FLOODING THROUGHOUT MARIN COUNTY

First responders across Marin County are currently dealing with flooding caused by the recent rains and king tides. Currently, there are lane and road closures at various locations on US-101, including Lucky Drive and the SR-1 area in Mill Valley, and eastbound SR-37 between SR-121 and Mare Island. Please follow CHP-Marin on X for ongoing updates regarding road closures.

If possible, please avoid travel through Marin County until tides subside and roadways clear. If you chose to drive, anticipate significant delays and possible additional road closures.

Finally, please DO NOT attempt to drive through standing water. Emergency personnel are experiencing incredibly high call volumes and are already racing from call to call. If you don't know how deep the water is, DO NOT attempt to drive through it.
