Set to begin in late May or early June, the Bolinas Road Pipeline Replacement Project in the Town of Fairfax addresses a leak-prone section of underground water pipeline along Bolinas Road. The century-old cast iron pipe will be replaced with modern, seismically resilient welded steel pipe. Once complete, the project will increase system reliability and resiliency, reduce water loss from leaks, and boost available fire flow capacity at hydrants by approximately 20%.

PLANT OF THE WEEK: Golden yarrow (eriophyllum confertiflorum)
Golden Yarrow is a flowering plant in the daisy family that is highly variable and can be an annual, a perennial or a small shrub. Golden Yarrow is part of a number of plant communities, including chaparral, coastal sage shrub, and southern oak woodland.

It grows in large clumps of many erect stems, often as high as 2 feet high and 2 feet wide. It has lacy silver foliage. At the top of each stem is a flower cluster of up to 30 flower heads, each bright golden yellow. The long blooming season from winter to summer makes this plant welcome in the garden. Cutting the dead flower heads extends the bloom.

It is not to be confused with Yellow Achillea which is a European import. Golden Yarrow is very attractive to pollinators, especially butterflies.

Golden Yarrow is a fast-growing plant that takes full sun and well-draining soil. It needs very little water, a maximum of two times per month in summer once established.

*PILE BURNING ON MT. TAM WATERSHED THIS WEEK STARTING MAY 14*

Marin Water will be pile burning starting today (Thursday, May 14) in areas near West Ridgecrest Boulevard north of the Laurel Dell parking lot on Mt. Tamalpais.

This activity is part of our ongoing fire fuel removal efforts on the Mt. Tam Watershed and will continue through Friday this week if conditions are right. Smoke coming from the watershed may be visible during this work. Please avoid calling 9-1-1 to report smoke in this area of Mt. Tam resulting from this operation.

Pile burning is one of many methods, including mechanical removal, manual pulling, grazing and others, that contribute to Marin Water’s proactive approach to fire fuel management and a more resilient, ecologically healthy watershed.

Lights, camera, water! 🎬💦
Please join us in congratulating the winners of Marin Water’s Inaugural High School Video Contest – a brand-new program celebrating student creativity, storytelling and our local water system.

- First Place: Jack Buchanan, Marin Academy
- Second Place: Grayson Rothbart, Marin Academy
- Third Place: Michael Maguire, San Domenico

This year’s theme, “Your Water’s Journey,” invited students to tell the story of how local drinking water makes its way from the watershed to your tap, and they delivered in a big way.

Watch the winning videos below!

And keep your eye out – next year’s theme drops later this summer, and we can’t wait to see what students create next!
