The National Weather Service has extended the Red Flag Warning to include Friday, May 29, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Since Montezuma County is currently under a fire ban, the Red Flag Warning does not change any current fire restrictions. However, they do emphasize that conditions are right for any small spark to become a large wildfire. Please continue to use caution with anything that might cause a spark.

Montezuma County Road & Bridge Hiring Equipment Operator/Truck Driver

The Montezuma County Road and Bridge Department is accepting applications for a full-time Equipment Operator/Truck Driver position.

Applicants must possess and maintain a minimum Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Tanker endorsement is preferred. Candidates must also pass a thorough background check.

Qualifications include experience operating a variety of heavy equipment and haul trucks, including:
-Motor graders/blades
-Backhoes
-Excavators
-Loaders
-End dumps
-Water trucks
-Other related equipment as required

Experience operating snowplows is helpful.

The Montezuma County Landfill will be closed for the rest of today (Thursday, May 28) due to high winds.

The Landfill is required to close when wind speeds exceed 40 mph. If the wind is blowing, please feel free to give us a call before driving to the Landfill. 970-565-9858

Beginning Monday, June 1, there will be no charge for green waste disposal at the Landfill for as long as the burn ban remains in effect.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of tree limbs, brush, and other green waste rather than burning. This temporary measure is intended to help reduce wildfire risk during current high fire danger conditions.

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Red
Flag Warning for gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry
fuels, which is in effect from 1 PM to 8 PM MDT Thursday. A Fire
Weather Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch for
gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels is in effect
from Friday afternoon through Friday evening.
