Lieutenant Salisbury and Officer Sulaiman had a great time this past Sunday connecting with the community at the Touch-A-Truck Cortland event.

Children had the exciting opportunity to climb aboard a variety of vehicles they see every day—from police cars to public service trucks—and learn what each one is used for. Events like this help foster positive relationships and give children a better understanding of the important roles these vehicles (and the people who operate them) play in keeping the community safe and running smoothly.

Thank you to our Cortland Youth Bureau for the invitation and for organizing such a fun and educational event—we were proud to be a part of it!

This past Saturday, our department was honored to join law enforcement agencies from across our community to participate in the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New York. The Torch Run represents more than just a tradition—it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, unity, and community. This year marks 40 years of law enforcement running alongside our amazing athletes of Special Olympics New York, whose determination, courage, and spirit continue to light the way and inspire us all.

Together, we celebrate the strength and achievements of these remarkable athletes and reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive community by helping carry the Flame of Hope. Thank you to all of the participants, organizers, and volunteers that make this event possible!

This Pride Month, we proudly recognize and celebrate the diversity within our department and the communities we serve. Our officers come from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and identities—and that diversity makes us stronger, more understanding, and better equipped to serve with integrity and respect.

🐾🚔On Wednesday, May 27th, our department proudly collaborated with the SUNY Cortland Employee Assistance Program to host an exciting Police K9 Demonstration, and we’re thrilled to share that it was a tremendous success!

We were grateful to welcome a large crowd of campus community members, along with many guests from the surrounding community, who came out to see our highly trained K9 teams in action. Attendees enjoyed an engaging and informative presentation showcasing the incredible skills, discipline, and dedication of our police dogs, their handlers, and their trainers.

A special thank you to all who helped make this event possible:

🔴SUNY Cortland EAP
🟠Deputy Lent and K9 Knowlton from the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office
🟡Ptl. Layng and K9 Scottie from the City of Ogdensburg NY Police Dept
🟢Kristina Klímová and Tick of Bohemian K9 Dog Training

We also recognize and thank our very own K9 teams:

🦮🔍 Inv. Sholar with K9 Meekah
💣 💥T/Sgt. Coakley with K9 Red

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a beautiful afternoon showcasing the critical role K9 units play in public safety.

SUNY Cortland University Police were proud to roll up our sleeves and give back through our Adopt‑A‑Street Program, helping clean up Broadway and Townley Avenues.
By picking up litter and caring for the spaces we all share, our officers helped make the community a little cleaner and safer for everyone.
