For the second time this week another local owned and operated family business is being recognized for its contributions and impact on the greater Cortland community. Since 1963 the Souzas family has owned and operated the Community Restaurant at 10 Main Street in Cortland. The business originally opened in 1930 as the Community Coffee Shop. For nearly 100 years the Community Restaurant has served as a landmark on Cortland's Main Street, hosting family gatherings, first dates, wedding receptions, business meetings and casual meals with friends.
State Assembly Member Dr. Anna Kelles recently nominated the Community for inclusion into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry, the registry recognizes business that have been in operation for 50 years or longer. The Community Restaurant joins 160 other businesses statewide that have been included on the registry and is the second in Cortland County.
We say congratulations to Evan Souzas and his family for this important recognition and thank-you for your continued investment in and support of the Cortland community.

The Central New York Regional Economic Development Council is preparing an updated Economic Development Strategic Plan that establishes a vision for the region’s economic development initiatives over the next five years. This regional plan aims to support the work already happening within communities across Madison, Oswego, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Cortland Counties. As economic opportunities and new businesses enter Central New York, now is the time to lay the groundwork that will help direct resources, link strategic partners, and support how ESD and other partners will support existing businesses.
