THAT’S A WRAP!!! The 2026 Trumbull County Fair is in the books. It was an eventful week for our department and our personnel. We faced a number of challenges, treated lots of patients, performed standby for numerous events, the presence of Canadian wild fire smoke and potential for severe weather; all in addition to responding to our township emergencies that included a significant gas leak on Niles-Cortland Rd.

We want to thank our residents for their attendance to the fair and for supporting our department and personnel. We got to meet several residents and had lots of little ones asking about our equipment.

We also want to acknowledge our partners and additional resources for their assistance during the fair.

1:10 PM Saturday | A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for northern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania until 9:00 PM this evening. The main severe weather concern is storms that will move in from the northwest later this afternoon and evening with a risk for damaging wind gusts. Isolated large hail, a short-lived/isolated tornado, and locally heavy rain are secondary threats today. Have a way to receive warning information and remain weather aware through this evening.

🚧🚧UPDATE🚧🚧

Regarding the current road closure of State Route 46 (Niles-Cortland) that resulted from the gas line leak yesterday.

Bazetta Fire Department has just been informed by ODOT that due to the necessary, time consuming cleaning that needs to be performed to remove the current hazards, the road WILL REMAINED CLOSED until SATURDAY, JULY 18, 2026 at approximately 5:00 A.M. This is ODOT’s current estimate and the fire department has no operations at the scene.

Please continue to use the designated detours in this area until further notice. We will update our social media page as more information becomes available Thank you and be safe!

We understand that the air quality is very poor right now in Trumbull County. We have recieved many calls asking what we are going to do about it.
Unfortunately this is one problem we can not help manage. Please see some of recommendations listed below.

Thursday, July 16th, 2026 UPDATE
regarding gas line rupture on Niles-Cortland Rd yesterday.

WHAT HAPPENED: Diversified Energy line from a well was broken when running some fiberoptic lines.

WHAT IS BEING DONE CURRENTLY: The Ohio EPA was on scene and Diversified Energy Environmental Health Specialist are doing the clean up. They worked over night and will continue to do so until later this afternoon.

Diversified Energy is replacing the broken line, and the road should be open within the next few hours.
Enbridge Gas line was not damaged, but their crew assisted Diversified in the repairs and the shutdown of the gas.

THERE IS NO IMMEDIATE DANGER AT THIS TIME.

Please be advised of these conditions as this will directly affect our area today. Air quality will affect people with respiratory illnesses and conditions. Limit your time outdoors due to the smoke in the area.

Smoke from the wildfires will reduce visibility during the morning commute and through the day. Visibility can vary, but could drop down to less than a mile at times. Smoke will spread southward resulting in widespread poor air quality and visibility.
