Cortland Fire/ Rescue

Cortland Fire/ Rescue Cortland Volunteer Fire & Rescue Currently the department has 18 personnel, which includes EMT’s, First Responders and Fire Fighters. Monthly meetings are held.

· Fire Chief, Chris Briggs
· Assistant Fire Chief, Adam German

The fire hall was built in 2000 on the east side of town on the corner of First Street and Sherman Avenue. Their equipment includes a tanker, a grass rig, a medical truck, a pumper truck and a utility truck. Training sessions are held in alternating months for medical and fire training. Emergency Medical Services Team:
The Cortland vo

lunteer rescue established their EMS Team in 1982 to better serve the community. The department receives financial assistance from the Cortland Rural Fire District, the Village of Cortland, and through donations. The area covered is 64 square miles, including Cortland and Princeton. Hallam and Clatonia Rescue Squads serve as mutual aide and as their transporting units. The EMTs are dedicated volunteers who donate many hours a year of their own time for monthly meetings, drills, training, classes, EMT basic and refresher courses, public relations and seminars

Cortland Explorers:
The Cortland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department started a junior fire and rescue team around 1996 known as the Cortland Explorers. All members are certified as Professional CPR providers and go through many hours of fire and rescue training a month. Explorers have the opportunity to train alongside the fire department by going to calls to get first-hand experience of what it’s like in the field. To be an Explorer you must be 14 to 20 years old and live in the area.

🚨🔥 FIRE DANGER WARNING – PLEASE READ & SHARE 🔥🚨

Our area is currently under extreme fire danger conditions due to high winds, dry vegetation, and low humidity. These factors create the perfect environment for fires to start easily and spread rapidly.

The Governor has extended the statewide burn ban for an additional two weeks, and it is critical that everyone follows these restrictions to help keep our community safe.

⚠️ What this means:
• No open burning
• Avoid activities that could spark a fire (welding, burning trash, etc.)
• Use extra caution with equipment and vehicles
• Properly dispose of ci******es

🔥 Remember: It only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

Our firefighters are ready to respond, but we need your help to prevent fires before they start. Please stay alert, follow the burn ban, and report any signs of fire immediately.

Stay safe, Nebraska. Let’s protect our homes, land, and each other. 💛

🚨 Please Do NOT Burn Right Now Nebraska 🚨
Right now across Nebraska, we are seeing extremely dangerous fire conditions. With the dry grass, strong winds, and low humidity, fires are spreading fast and putting lives, homes, and land at risk.
The Governor and the State Fire Marshal have issued a burn ban, and it’s critical that everyone respects it. Even a small burn pile or spark can quickly turn into a large grass fire under these conditions.
Our firefighters and first responders are already out battling grass fires across the state, working long hours in tough conditions to protect our communities. The best way we can support them is by not burning and preventing more fires from starting.
Please do your part: Do not burn trash or brush
• Avoid activities that create sparks
• Report any fires immediately
• Follow the burn ban until conditions improve
Let’s keep our communities safe and avoid putting more firefighters in danger.
🙏 Please keep all fire personnel, their families, and everyone affected by these fires in your prayers. We are grateful for the men and women working on the front lines to protect Nebraska.
Stay safe and spread the word: Now is not the time to burn.
