Cortlandville Fire Department The Cortlandville Fire Department provides Fire~Rescue service for the Town of Cortlandville in NYS

The Cortlandville Fire Department operates three engines, three tankers, two brush trucks, one ladder tower, and one heavy rescue out of two stations that cover approximately 70 square miles. Our district includes 20 miles of Interstate 81, part of the State University of New York at Cortland Campus, and is the center of retail in Cortland County. We annually respond to 500 plus emergency calls ra

nging from structure fires and car accidents to flooding and wires down. The members of the Cortlandville Fire Department pride themselves on training and operating as the counties FAST team.

Congratulations Lucas!!

On June third FASNY home president and Cortland county director for CNYFA Doug VanEtten assisted the Scholarship committee with Presenting one of our VFIS/Gates-Cole insurance scholarships to Lucas Friedman at the McGraw Schools presentation night.
Lucas is going to attend Onondaga Community College in the fall to study in the Fire Technology program
Lucas also received a scholarship

On Tuesday June 2nd at approximately 140pm, the Cortlandville Fire Department was called to Hoxie Gorge Rd for a reported vehicle fire. Upon arrival firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Hoxie Gorge Rd was closed temporarily while firefighters worker to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.

This evening, Cortlandville Firefighter Lucas Friedman was presented with the 2026 Dan Newton Scholarship by the Cortland County Fire Chiefs Association. The scholarship was presented by Association President Mike Biviano during a special ceremony attended by Lucas's family.

Lucas will graduate from McGraw High School this spring and plans to continue his education at SUNY OCC Fire Protection Program this fall, pursuing his passion for the fire service.
We congratulate Lucas on this well-deserved honor and wish him continued success as he advances his education and fire service career. We are proud to have him as a member of the Cortlandville Fire Department and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the years ahead.

The Cortlandville Fire Department would like to congratulate Chief Wayne Friedman on being named New York State Career Fire Chief of the Year.

Chief Friedman has dedicated nearly 30 years of service to the Cortlandville Fire Department, holding several leadership positions throughout his tenure, including serving as Chief of Department for two years. His commitment, leadership, and dedication to the fire service have made a lasting impact on both the department and the community.

Chief Friedman began his fire service career by following in the footsteps of his mother and father, continuing a proud family tradition of service. Today, that tradition carries on as he remains an active member of the department and serves alongside his two sons, Lucas and Gabe Friedman.

This recognition is a testament to Chief Friedmanโ€™s outstanding career, unwavering dedication, and lifelong commitment to serving others.
