Chapter at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR
Meetings Thursdays at 6:00pm in Snell 231 MEChA is a nationwide organization. The chapter at Oregon State University in Corvallis is just one of the many in the state of Oregon, Mictlampa Ciuhatlampa region, but we retain the right to determine or own course of action under the general goals and objectives of the liberation of La raza (i.e [email protected]/[email protected]/[email protected]/[email protected]).
MEChA stands for Movimiento Estudiantil [email protected] de Aztlan. Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan. MOVIMIENTO was chosen in recognition that we are much more than an organization, more than just a network, much more than a coalition: we are MOVEMENT aim is self determination (deciding for ourselves, controlling our destiny); whose ideas and actions cannot be stopped until that aim is accomplished. ESTUDIANTIL is appropriate because, as students, we realize that we are only part of a much larger movement of people that includes farmworkers, packing house workers, factory workers, professionals, and others who are fighting for equality in their own struggles. ESTUDIANTIL was also chosen because our main fight is for educational rights. CHICANO is our identity. It rejected the old notion that we were merely a minority group that was a part of the Anglo American melting pot. It is a symbol of resistance as well as a symbol of unity amongst Latinos, Mexicanos, Hispanos and Tejanos, and has come to represent the struggles and fight all Latino people. It is a demand for self identity, and at the same time, an assertion of the pride we have for our unique history and culture. It is the clearest expression of national consciousness, as well as the loudest demand for self-determination that we could express. Chicana/o refers to ones attitude, political ideals, and way of life; therefore, we welcome all to our organization that champion our similar goals and beliefs. Being a member of M.E.Ch.A. is not limited to a classification of color, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or ability. It means giving back to our community and neighborhoods. It means giving more opportunity to our children than what we had. It means never forgetting where we came from.

MEChA de OSU’s outgoing Co-Chair was a part of the Our Stories: Immigrants of American Series, check out his story below
My story doesn’t begin until the story of my parents begins in the United States, to say otherwise would be foolish of me.
My story began when my grandfather emigrated to the United States and my mother followed because of the love she had for him.
It started with my father coming here with his siblings because there were better work opportunities for him.
My story began when my parents sacrificed an education to work for their families and provide for them when they left their lives behind in Mexico and came to the United States to work.
Immigration is what started the story of me.
The story of my siblings.
The story of a student who came to Oregon State University (OSU) alone and afraid, not knowing what to do or how to navigate this system.
Immigration is what got me to where I am.
A student at OSU.
President of the Memorial Union.
Student Trustee.
Wanting something more for my family, the same driving force that brought my parents to the United States, is the same force that continues on, generation after generation
With more to come, and more success to be had.
Building off of one another, committing each other to giving back to those who came before us.
That is how immigration impacted my life.
See you all at our meeting today! Pizzas have been ordered and we’re ready for elections!
Great event with our speaker Eduardo Chavez!
Tonight!!!
MEChA de OSU was founded on this day 25 years ago!! Happy 25 years OSU MEChistAs!

In the biggest setback yet for the Trump administration in its decision to end a program that protects undocumented young adults from deportation, a federal judge ruled Tuesday that the government must resume accepting new applications.
Judge John D. Bates of the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia said the government’s decision to end the program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, was predicated on the “virtually unexplained” grounds that the program was “unlawful.”
The judge stayed his decision for 90 days, giving the Department of Homeland Security the opportunity to better explain its reasoning for canceling the program.
These are the two workshops presented by Alejandro Jimenez today! The first one “Dismantling Patriarchy” starts at 12:00pm at the Centro Cultural César Chávez with “Where is Home?” Following afterwards at 4:00pm.
Come by! We’ll have food and drinks for all :)
