We are very proud to announce that the City Council unanimously voted to pass the Corvallis Green New Deal for Climate and Housing Justice!!! This has been the result of over two years of organizing, researching, writing, editing, collecting feedback, talking to community members, and doing it all over again. We met and organized even through pandemic disruptions, finals, and zoom meetings. Dozens of people have contributed to this effort (we tried to list everyone’s name in the first picture but probably only scratched the surface!) and we’re grateful to every one of them. Of course, we have been working hard on this resolution, but more importantly we’ve been building a powerful movement of people committed to climate justice. We’ve been growing together, supporting one another, laughing together and making new friends. We’ve been creating positive energy and hope, spreading it everywhere we go. This resolution is only the beginning- there’s so much more to be done. We MUST keep building climate resilience and people power, keep supporting our unhoused neighbors, keep fighting for a livable future. And we will continue to win.

Sunrise Corvallis members had a blast on Saturday canvassing alongside climate champion Doyle Canning! We’re proud to stand by her side in this once in a generation chance to send a progressive candidate to Washington!

This Friday OSU will be blowing up Reser stadium despite the fact that it is completely unnecessary, puts the school in debt for the next 20 years, and wastes money that could otherwise be used to fund literally anything else- social justice initiatives, scholarships for struggling students, or increased pay for grad students.

Who is behind this decision? Former OSU President F. King Alexander, the guy that got fired for protecting s*x offenders. Also, the Foundation and the Board of Trustees, which include Darald Callahan (the former Executive VP of Chevron Oil Company), Patricia Bedient (a chair of SunCor energy- another fossil fuel company) and Kenneth Provencher (the president of the extremely extractive health insurance company PacificSource Health plans).

This is part of an ongoing trend of giving into donor pressure to fund big, expensive projects rather than fixing buildings that are decaying or supporting students already here. OSU says that the main donation was earmarked for stadium reconstruction, but they are spending the rest of the money voluntarily. Let’s tell OSU to Stop Wasting Our Money!

Come join us at the Young Progressives meeting on Saturday, December 1 at the Westminster Church! We’ll begin our meeting at 1 pm with some baked goods and good vibes. The goal of the Young Progressives meeting is to gather the youth-led progressive groups together and work on some ways we can work together to build a stronger community!!
