Sheriff"s Mounted Posse The Benton County Sheriff's Mounted Posse is under the command of Sheriff Scott Jackson. We are a volunteer organization, whose purpose is to assist the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
(7)
We are a dedicated group that enjoy serving our community and promoting horsemanship to Benton County. Each Posse member volunteers their time and provides their own horse, tack, and some of their own equipment. The Posse was formed under Sheriff Clifford Lilly in 1946 to: * Assist the Sheriff's Office in community outreach activities * Assist local and state agencies in the preservation of law and order, search and rescue and emergency services. * Stimulate good horsemanship and promote strong fellowship. * Perpetuate the traditions, customs and pageantry of Oregon's early days. * Enhanced family and community activities. Our intention is to carry on and assist with the preservation of law and order, search and rescue and to carry on the traditions, pageantry and horsemanship of the "Old West". Today, these traditions are carried on by men and women who serve as special deputies under the Benton County Sheriff. Search and rescue is the foremost service provided to the Sheriff's Office. Posse members are trained and certified in search and rescue by the Oregon State Sheriff's Association and are on call 24 hours a day by the Sheriff's Office. Posse members who are involved in search and rescue spend a tremendous amount of time training and honing their skills throughout the year in order to keep their certification current and to learn the most up-to-date techniques and equipment to be used during a search.

We have been very busy this week helping rescue animals from level 3 area in Gates, OR with an amazing group of other volunteers. So far we have rescued 4 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 llamas, 2 alpacas, 1 pig, 4 dogs, 3 cats, 1 iguana and 1 gecko. We don't believe the large animals have ever been in a trailer before, so that was quite challenging. Couldn't get the draft-cross horse loaded the first day, so we were fortunate to bring a vet along the 2nd day to tranquilize him and finally got him loaded. Its a great feeling to be able to save some animals that have been impacted by the fires. Working on saving them all! 😢

Mark Your Calendars! The Chili Cook-Off is a community event that’s fun for the whole family and a great way to raise money for local programs. Each year a different non-profit agency is selected as beneficiary's of the event.
This year the Benton County Sheriff's Mounted Posse is honored to be one of the recipients! Please share this event to support us, and the other beneficiary's and come on out for a good time.
Teams of public safety professionals, local businesses, and other community organizations compete against each other to produce the best chili in their category. Winners are selected by a panel of judges and people attending the event!!!
The event is put on by a dedicated committee of volunteers and includes a variety of activities including demonstrations by the Benton County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, K-9 Demonstrations, Corvallis Mountain Rescue Unit, Mary's Peak Search and Rescue, REACH Air-Medical Services helicopter, Coast Guard, Oregon Army National Guard, Marine Patrol, Corvallis Fire Department, Philomath Fire and Rescue, 4-H petting station, children’s activities, music and…of course…chili tasting!
