Thank you to our rescue partners with the Oregon National Guard - Oregon Military Department Oregon Army National Guard for coming down to Corvallis and helping with Benton County Sheriff's Office SAR Academy. This yearly academy trains new SAR volunteers with the skills they need to be effective in search and rescue across the state of Oregon.

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Volunteers training to help find missing people and rescue injured hikers in Benton County recently received a close-up look at military aviation during a Search and Rescue Academy exercise supported by the Oregon National Guard.

When conditions are wet and cold, good patient movement and packaging is key to quality care. CMRU spent the day working on small and large group scenarios, keeping patients warm and dry while evacuating.
Trainings like these are good reminders that your temperature and environment play a heavy role in how successful a rescue will be, whether you’re self-extricating or calling for help.

Our team had a productive summer filled with tons of technical training, partnering with Eugene Mountain Rescue and Linn County Search and Rescue 🙌🏼

On a rainy June day, we carried out a scenario, allowing the opportunity for one of our members to advance in a leadership role 💪🏼

We completed several advanced Single Rope Technique rescue stations at our local crag in July. In August we found ourselves working with EMR and LCSAR on some advanced rigging in Cross-Hauls and Highline. 🫡

A few members participated in a service project with the Friends of Santiam Pass Ski Lodge to clear the lodge grounds of debris and fire tinder.

Then, just over last weekend in September during our Oregon Mountain Rescue Council annual joint training, we carried out a technical rock rescue scenario. ⛑️

Collaborating with other agencies in training raises our readiness to be most effective in the field on joint rescue missions. We are grateful for these training opportunities and the professional working relationships we build in the process, trusting each other with our lives. ✊🏼

Corvallis Mountain Rescue Unit - CMRU rescuers participated in this mission and were thankful to join others in searching for and recovering Mr Winter. Our thoughts are with the Winters family at this difficult time.
