☀️🌡️ HEAT RETURNS THIS WEEKEND 🌡️☀️

After several weeks of relatively mild temperatures, a stretch of unseasonably hot weather is expected to begin late this weekend and continue into the first week of September.

🌡️ What to Expect:

• High temperatures in the 90s

• Heat index values in the upper 90s to around 100°F

• Hot conditions continuing for several days

• Limited chances for rainfall through much of the week

• Dry conditions may begin to redevelop across the area

⚠️ With temperatures climbing quickly after the cooler weather we’ve enjoyed recently, please start planning now for the return of the heat.

💧 Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if working outdoors.
🏠 Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

🐾 Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and access to shade or air conditioning.

🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle — even for a short period of time.

We’ll continue to share updates as we get closer to the weekend and confidence in the forecast increases.

🚧 ROADWAY UPDATE – ST. JOHN’S ROAD & BLACK CREEK 🚧

Good news! The bridge and roadway at St. John’s Road and Black Creek have reopened to traffic as of this afternoon. 🎉

Crews still have a few cleanup and seeding items to complete in the area, so please continue to use caution and watch for workers and equipment when traveling through.

Lane closures planned for State Road 135 in Harrison County

HARRISON COUNTY Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces alternating lane closures for State Road 135.
Beginning on or around Monday, August 31, crews will begin alternating lane closures on State Road 135 near New Salisbury. These lane closures will occur between Angelo Road and North Point Drive.

Alternating lane closures will allow for pavement patching operations. Work is expected to last through October, depending on the weather.

One lane will remain open during work. Traffic flow will be controlled by a flagger. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.

We’re keeping an eye on the potential for strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening. A few storms could produce gusty to damaging winds and hail, with the main window for storms between 2 PM and 8 PM ET.

⛈️ WEATHER UPDATE – TONIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING ⛈️

Good Evening, Y’all!

Here is the latest update for tonight. A cluster of storms is expected to move through the area overnight and into Thursday morning, bringing the potential for localized severe weather and flooding.

⏰ TIMING UPDATE: Storm development has taken longer than expected, which has delayed the overall timing. The main round of storms is now expected later tonight and into Thursday morning.

⚠️ Main Concerns:
• Localized severe storms
• Damaging winds
• Heavy rainfall
• Localized flash flooding

🌧️ FLOOD WATCH: A Flood Watch has been issued for our southern counties through 8:00 AM Thursday.

🌙 Since storms will move through during the overnight hours, please have multiple ways to receive weather alerts while you are sleeping. Keep your phone charged, volume turned up, and emergency alerts enabled.

🚗 Remember — Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Never drive through a flooded roadway, especially at night when flooding can be difficult to see.

⛈️ SEVERE WEATHER & HEAVY RAIN POTENTIAL TONIGHT ⛈️

Good morning! We are monitoring the potential for strong storms and heavy rainfall beginning Wednesday night and continuing into Thursday morning.

🌩️ What to Expect:

• Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop tonight and move across the area through Thursday morning.
• A few storms could become strong to severe, particularly west of I-65.
• Damaging winds will be the primary severe weather concern.
• Storms are expected to gradually weaken as they move east.

🌧️ Flash Flooding Concern:

Heavy rainfall may occur as storms repeatedly move over the same areas. This could lead to localized flash flooding, especially along and west of I-65.

⚠️ Portions of the region are under a Slight Risk for severe weather as well as a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall.

📱 Stay Weather Aware Tonight
Keep multiple ways to receive weather alerts, especially if you will be sleeping while storms move through. Never drive through flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
