🚨 WATER SAFETY REMINDER 🚨
As Memorial Day weekend approaches and summer activities begin, the Indiana Department of Health and Governor Mike Braun are encouraging Hoosiers to make water safety a priority. 🌊☀️
Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, especially for young children. According to the CDC, drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 1–4.
🛟 Water Safety Tips:
• Always designate a responsible adult to closely supervise children around water
• Wear a life jacket while boating or participating in water activities
• Avoid distractions such as phones, reading, alcohol, or drugs while supervising children near water
• Never leave a child unattended in or near water
• Teach children how to swim
• Make sure pools and spas have proper drain covers
• Learn CPR for both children and adults
Between 2018 and 2023, 127 Indiana residents under the age of 18 lost their lives due to drowning. Most drowning incidents are preventable with proper supervision and safety precautions.
Let’s work together to keep everyone safe while enjoying Indiana’s lakes, pools, rivers, and waterways this summer. ☀️💙
