Earlier this month, Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Department's Assistant Chief Billy Ingraham, Rob Bennit, and their kids delivered toys collected during our Holiday fire truck rides at the Cos Cob Firehouse. This marks our third year partnering with the Greenwich Police Department's “Fill a Cruiser” event benefiting Barbara's House, a charity supporting local families in need.

Each Memorial Day weekend, we proudly continue a tradition that means so much to our community, placing American flags on the Theis Bridge to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

This heartfelt display would not be possible without the generosity of Joseph and Barbara Havranek, who have donated the flags to us for the past five years. Joseph is a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired Greenwich Police Officer, and we are deeply grateful for his continued generosity and commitment to honoring our fallen heroes.

From all of us at the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company, thank you to those who have served, to those who continue to serve, and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today we would like to take a moment to celebrate a true leader and friend. Chief Willson has been a proud and dedicated member of Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 for many years, setting the standard for service, commitment, and integrity.

From answering emergency calls in the middle of the night to guiding new recruits into the fire company, Chief Willson has done it all.

Please join us in wishing him a very Happy 60th Birthday!

Thanks Greenwich Free Press for the great photos! We are excited to offer rides again and collect toys for the Greenwich Police toy drive next Saturday at our station from 4-7pm

Saturday was First Light in Old Greenwich, an annual holiday event that brings people together from all parts of town. Sound Beach Ave was closed to traffic for the celebration, and families enjoyed rides in antique fire trucks, live music, and a visit from Santa.

It is with heavy hearts that the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 announces the passing of our beloved president and dedicated 50-year member, Steven L. Francefort. Steve’s commitment to our fire company spanned decades, including over 40 years as our president.

Steve joined our department in October 1974 and quickly rose to leadership, being appointed vice president in August 1978. On January 3, 1980, he was sworn in as president, serving until 1983. Although health concerns briefly forced him to step down, Steve’s unwavering dedication brought him back to the role of vice president in December 1987. He was voted president again in 1988 and held that position ever since!

Steve’s dedication to the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company and the residents of Cos Cob was nothing short of extraordinary. His tireless advocacy for volunteer services in Greenwich made a profound impact on our community, and he will be deeply missed.

As we do every year for Memorial Day, we have returned the flags to Theis Bridge overlooking the Mianus River in order to honor and remember those that have served our country. This wouldn’t be possible without the generous donation from a long time anonymous supporter who we are grateful to for their continued support.
