Recently Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue hosted its first Fire Ops 101 event. The event was attended by Mayor Pro Tem Manuel Chavez, Council Member Mike Buley, Council Member Andrea Marr, Council Member Arlis Reynolds, Council Member Jeff Pettis, and Assistant City Manager Alma Reyes.

Participants were issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and took part in hands-on fire, rescue, and EMS evolutions designed to provide a realistic look into the daily responsibilities of firefighters and paramedics. Evolutions included a cardiac arrest simulation, a traffic collision scenario where participants utilized the “Jaws of Life” to extricate a simulated victim, a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) demonstration and utilization exercise, and a fire hose station where participants flowed water through various hoses and nozzles. The event concluded with a working structure fire simulation in which participants extinguished a live fire under the supervision of CMFR personnel.
The event concluded with lunch sponsored by the Costa Mesa Firefighters Association.

CMFR was proud to host our elected officials and city leadership for this outstanding opportunity to strengthen relationships, enhance understanding of the fire service, and showcase the professionalism and dedication of Costa Mesa Firefighters.
