Last night, Cotati Officers worked a DUI saturation shift focused on traffic and DUI enforcement. During that time, officers made four arrests of people operating motor vehicles while impaired.

During that time, Officers stopped a vehicle that ultimately led to a DUI investigation. While officers conducted field sobriety tests on the male driver, the female passenger hopped over from the passenger seat to the driver's seat and drove off. Officers promptly stopped the vehicle, which resulted in another DUI investigation.

Ultimately, both people were arrested for DUI. The passenger who attempted to drive off had a blood alcohol content of .31%.

Our officers are committed to enhancing the public’s safety through continued enforcement throughout the City of Cotati. #

Earlier this morning, at approximately 0100 hours, an officer assigned to a DUI enforcement shift conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple vehicle code violations. The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment, so the officer conducted a DUI evaluation.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the Officer placed the driver under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. The officer completed an evidentiary breath test, and the driver tested over 4 times the legal limit. The driver was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on DUI charges.

This is another great reminder to use ride-share programs, have a designated driver, or plan your outings ahead of time so everyone makes it home safely.

On Saturday, August 1st, at approximately 9:14pm, a Walgreens employee called to report that two people had just stolen merchandise and were leaving in a vehicle. Cotati Officers quickly responded to the scene and stopped the suspect vehicle nearby.

The driver of the vehicle was on pre-trial release for eight (8) separate pending criminal cases since December of 2025 related to theft, drug possession, and check fraud.

A search of the vehicle yielded an abundance of stolen merchandise from Walgreens, suspected methamphetamine, burglary tools (including a concealed magnet for deactivating product tags), and incomplete checks belonging to another person.

The driver of the vehicle was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for 166(a)(4) PC - violation of pre-trial, 459.5(a) PC - shoplifting, 496(a) PC - possession of stolen property, 466 PC - possession of burglary tools, 11377(a) HS - possession of methamphetamine, and 475(b) PC - possession of incomplete checks.

The merchandise stolen from Walgreens was returned to Walgreens immediately.

Today, members of the Cotati Police Department attended the Madd “Mothers Against Drunk Driving” award ceremony in Sacramento. This event recognizes members of the public safety community for their outstanding work ethic and unwavering commitment to enhancing public safety.

Impaired driving enforcement is critical to keeping our community safe and helping everyone make it home at the end of the day.

Three of our very own received special recognition for their efforts to get impaired drivers off the roadway. These three officers alone made nearly 200 combined arrests for impaired driving in 2025. Great work!!
