National Backflow Prevention Day August 16, 2026
Your drinking water flows one way for a reason. What is backflow? Water pressure reverses, pulling contaminants back into your drinking water supply. Why does it matter? It can make tap water unsafe without any visible warning signs. How do we stop it? A backflow preventer is a device that blocks contaminated water from reversing direction.

This past Sunday was National Backflow Prevention Day and in Cotati, we take it seriously. We require annual testing of every backflow device in our service area because safe drinking water doesn't happen by accident. Backflow occurs when water pressure reverses direction, potentially pulling contaminants from irrigation systems or other sources back into the public water supply. Backflow preventers stop that from happening and annual testing ensures they're working. Our testing deadline this year is September 1, 2026. Questions? Call 707-665-3631 or email [email protected].
