Deer Mountain Volunteer Fire Department The Deer Mountain Fire Protection District (DMFPD) is located in Fremont County, Colorado. We are a Volunteer Department

The District covers approximately 120 square miles of small rural sub-divisions, wilderness areas and the town of Cotopaxi. There are two Stations within the District; Station-1 is Deer Mountain Volunteer Fire Department which provides services to the sub-divisions of Cody Park, Colorado Acres, Ross Springs, Glen Vista and the Iron Mountain Wilderness Area. Station-2 is Cotopaxi Fire Rescue serves

the town of Cotopaxi, US Highway 50 corridor through Big Horn Sheep Canon and the Arkansas River Recreation Areas. There are approximately 3,500 permanent residents, consisting of approximately 1,600 structures, and 1,000 snowbirds (summer time increase in residents) within our boundaries. The District responds to about 135 yearly calls which range from big and small Wildland Fires, Medical, Motor Vehicle Accidents and Swift Water Accidents.

As of August 11, 2026 the search is completed and the area is clear.

There is currently a search in progress in the Indian Wells area.

Please stay clear of the area if possible to allow emergency personnel to conduct their search safely and without interference.

If you are traveling through the area, please continue through without stopping and use caution around emergency vehicles and personnel.

No drones or help is needed at this time. There is no danger to the community.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep the area clear while the search is underway.

As of August 11, 2026 the search is completed and the area is clear.

Fremont Search and Rescue, Fremont deputies, Reach 29 and Deer Mountain are currently conducting a search in the area of Indian wells and copper gulch. Please avoid the area so crews can work efficiently.

NO DRONES or help is needed at this time.
