Meet one of our volunteers, Alecia L., who has been with Deer-Grove EMS for 3 years. Alecia's journey in EMS began 7 years ago at Deforest Windsor Fire & EMS as a Cadet in her senior year of high school. Alecia claims to be our white cloud. Meaning that when she's on duty there aren't any calls to respond to. She spends a lot of time with staff whom she really finds to be her favorite thing about Deer Grove! “I could not have gotten through hours of shifts with no calls without my coworkers.”

This past summer we held our annual department staff recognition party, which is one of Alecia’s favorite department memories because everyone was together. She was able to meet some new people and see staff she doesn’t get to run with.

Alecia completed her degree in Criminal Justice from Madison College in 2019. Rather than going to the Law Enforcement Academy, she completed Paramedic School and continues to volunteer with Deer-Grove as a medic. Help support Aleicia by thanking her for her volunteer efforts and for advancing into the world of paramedics!

We want to highlight Paramedic Erin Campbell who has been involved with EMS since she was 19 and has firefighter credentials.

What Erin most appreciates about Deer-Grove EMS is the staff. Erin says, "...my coworkers have helped me grow into the provider I am today. I also think our training is amazing. There are so many opportunities for growth and engagement in evidence-based medicine.” She is one of DG's casual (part-time) paramedics and has been on staff for 4 years.

Her favorite place in our district is the Deerfield Coffeehouse for its amazing lattes!

Erin recently graduated from nursing school and is employed by UW Health where she works in the ICU. She also is an adjunct instructor at Madison College.

Erin is an avid horror movie fan which may not be a well-known fact about her. Erin also likes to read and spend time with her family. Thank Erin for her service when you next see her!

As July comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize, Steph Byrnes. Steph is one of our "casual" (LTE) paramedics. July 2023 is a particular month for Steph, the 1-year mark of her employment! Congratulations to Stephanie. She took some time to answer some questions for us:

The people & culture are a favorite part of being a member of Deer Grove EMS. "Everyone has been welcoming and supportive. The environment isn't competitive and is very conducive to learning."

Favorite Memory was winning the Gold & signing the golden flamingo at the 2022 EMS Olympics! So much fun!!

Papa Jimmy's for pizza - YUM! Steph's favorite place in the district.

Steph has been in EMS since 2004 when she started volunteering with McFarland. There, they sent her through basic and the following year through IV Tech (Advanced EMT). That year, in 2005, she also joined Waunakee as a volunteer. Stephanie volunteered for both services until her son was born in 2006. She then left McFarland. She has remained with Waunakee, who helped her through paramedic in the 2019-2020 school year in preparation for their service upgrade in June 2020. Steph has been with Deer-Grove EMS since July 2013.

Outside of EMS, she loves to spend time with her family and dog outdoors. They hike, kayak, and paddleboard in the summer. In the winter it's skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.

Fun fact about Stephanie: she loves to skydive!

Thank you, Stephanie, for what you do to help keep our schedule full and for the service you provide to our district residents, visitors, and businesses! Please congratulate Steph next time you see her!
