Curious about what your Police Officers have been up to this week? Hereโ€™s a quick recap:

- Officers assisted with the Mudslinger Tandem Bike Event throughout the day. Officers provided a police es**rt for approximately 100 tandem bicycle riders as they traveled from outside the city limits through downtown Cottage Grove and assisted with traffic control to ensure the safety of participants and motorists. Throughout the event, Officers also conducted foot patrols through Bohemia Park, interacting with community members, vendors, and event staff.

- Officers responded to and were present at the Cottage Grove High School graduation ceremony. Officers provided a visible law enforcement presence, assisted with traffic and pedestrian safety, and helped ensure the event remained safe and orderly for graduates, families, and staff in attendance. Congratulations to the Lions and the Class of 2026 on their accomplishment!

- Calls were received into dispatch reporting a highly intoxicated male subject who was engaging in threatening and harassing behavior walking up and down the middle of the street. After interviewing multiple witnesses, the male subject was placed into custody and was transported to the Lane County Jail to be lodged on charges of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree (ORS 166.025).

- Officers responded to a nearby motel regarding reports of a male screaming outside his room for at least twenty minutes. Officers contacted the male subject outside his room, who was highly intoxicated, agitated and hostile towards officers. The male subject decided to enter his motel room and go to bed in lieu of being placed into custody for disorderly conduct.

- While routine patrol checks of the area of Harvey Road and North 19th Street, an officer observed a vehicle turning around in the road on Harvey Road and while doing so, hopped the curb and drove over some lavender plants. During the contact, the driversโ€™ eyes appeared to be blood shot and glossy, which the passenger stated was from allergies. Due to the traffic stop, dispatch ran a records check and it was determined the driver was not allowed to have contact with the passenger in the vehicle. Parole and Probation was contacted and a detainer was placed on the driver, where he was then transported to the Lane County Jail to be lodged on a Probation Violation (ORS 137.595).

- Officers responded to a call regarding a subject down with a bystander performing CPR already. Upon arrival, Officers assisted South Lane Fire and Rescue and secured the scene while medical personnel took over lifesaving efforts. Medics continued CPR utilizing a LUCAS mechanical chest compression device and were ultimately able to regain a pulse. The patient was stabilized and transported to Riverbend Hospital.

On 06/04/26 at about 10:30 am, officers with the Cottage Grove Police Department were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the 2100 block of Wilson Avenue in Cottage Grove. South Lane 9-1-1 received multiple calls of a man confronting individuals, yelling, and threatening to kill them.

Officers arrived and talked to the victims and witnesses to the incident. They identified Brett W. Sahs age 58 as the suspect. According to the victims they were hired by the neighborhood homeownerโ€™s association (HOA) to perform lawn maintenance in the neighborhood. They had been working at Sahsโ€™s residence on Wilson Avenue when Sahs allegedly confronted them and threatened them. After they left the residence and were working at another nearby residence in the neighborhood, Sahs again approached them and continued to yell at them and threaten to kill them. He then returned to his residence where he called the property management company for his residence and reiterated his threats to kill them. Sahs stated he had a gun and was going to shoot somebody.

When officers attempted contact with Sahs at his residence he refused to come out after being advised he was under arrest. Due to the nature of the threats, mutual aid was requested and personnel from the Lane County Sheriffโ€™s Office and Oregon State Police responded to the scene.

During the incident an officer with the Cottage Grove Police Department was able to make phone contact with Sahs. At about 12:45 pm Sahs agreed to come out of the residence. Once Sahs exited the residence he was taken into custody without further incident.

Sahs was transported to the Lane County Jail where he was booked and lodged on the above listed charges.

We would like to thank the Lane County Sheriffโ€™s Office and the Oregon State Police for their support in bringing this incident to a peaceful conclusion.

This is an active investigation and there is no further information available at this time. If anyone has any information about this investigation, they are asked to call the Cottage Grove Police Department at 541-942-9145

Curious about what your Police Officers have been up to this week? Hereโ€™s a quick recap:

- Walmart staff stopped by to bring the department water and treats, even a toy for K9 Ripp! We had the pleasure of meeting the new Store Manager and provided a quick tour of the department. Thank you Walmart!!

- We had the honor and privilege of swearing in our two newest hires โ€“ Dispatcher Olson and Officer Jimenez. We are excited they are here, serving the community of Cottage Grove.

- Officer Buckland went to solo patrol status last week. We are very excited to have a second officer on duty during the weekday dayshift again.

- Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident on Hwy 99 involving a motorcycle and pickup truck. Officers arrived on scene and observed medics conducting medical interventions on the motorcyclist. Officers maintained the scene as a crowd of people began to develop on the borders of the scene. The motorcycle rider was transported to Riverbend hospital for additional treatment.

- A driver called to report a Subaru driving on E. Main Street with no lights pointing a green laser at another motorist while driving. Officers searched the area and later observed vehicle driving erratically, the driver ran a stop sign on Woodson Bridge onto River Road providing probable cause for a traffic stop. The driver was issued citations for the observed traffic infractions. Cites were issued to the three male passengers for no seat belts.

- Officers responded to a cold vehicle versus pedestrian crash at South 10th Street and Taylor Avenue. The investigation determined a juvenile pedestrian was lawfully crossing South 10th Street within the marked crosswalk in front of Harrison Elementary School when they were struck by a vehicle. The juvenile sustained minor injuries to their arm as a result of the collision and was later evaluated by medical personnel. After completing the investigation and reviewing the circumstances of the incident, the driver was cited for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Marked Crosswalk.

- During a patrol check of the dusk to dawn camp to secure the gate for the evening, officers contacted a known male, who had asked for a bottle of water. During the contact, the male was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. The suspected methamphetamine was recovered and the male was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine (ORS 475.894).

- While patrolling the area of the skate park, an officer noticed a male subject who was known to have an active warrant for his arrest. The officer requested dispatch to perform a records check and it was confirmed the warrant was still active. The male subject was contacted and informed he was under arrest for the warrant. He was transported to the Lane County Jail to be lodged.

Help us congratulate Officer Buckland on completing the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP)!

Although he has been part of the department for nearly a year, Monday marked an exciting milestone โ€” his first solo shift as a Police Officer serving the Cottage Grove community. We are proud to have him on our team and look forward to all he will continue to accomplish in his career.

Be sure to say hi and congratulate him if you see him out on patrol around town!

Curious about what your Police Officers have been up to this week? Hereโ€™s a quick recap:

- As dispatch continues to receive calls regarding electric bikes, we want to remind the community about the laws surrounding their use. Any electric bike capable of exceeding 28 mph or lacking functional pedals does not meet the legal definition of an e-bike. Instead, it is classified as an electric motorcycle or motorized dirt bike. These vehicles require registration, license plates, insurance, proper lighting, and a licensed operator. It is not legal to operate on public roadways or right of ways unless those requirements are met. Additionally, electric motorcycles and high-powered electric bikes are not permitted on sidewalks. If your child owns one of these vehicles, please discuss both the applicable laws and the importance of traffic safety, especially when riding at high speeds in congested areas.

- During the early morning hours, officers located a vehicle parked in the AutoZone lot along Row River Road. The vehicle had no license plate or visible temporary tag and was backed into a handicap parking space with a U-Haul trailer attached after business hours. Officers contacted the occupants, a male driver and female passenger. The male provided an Oregon ID card, and officers discovered he had an active felony warrant through the Oregon State Parole Board. After locating the VIN, dispatch confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Bend. The female passenger was detained and found in possession of fentanyl. She was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (ORS 475.752). The male was arrested for Fugitive Parole Violation (ORS 144.350), Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (ORS 164.135), and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (ORS 819.300). Both individuals were transported to the Lane County Jail. We appreciate the assistance from the Oregon State Police Trooper who assisted on scene and transported one of the subjects, as only one active CGPD patrol unit was on duty at the time.

- Officers responded to a report of a previously trespassed individual returning to a property. The female was located nearby and detained without incident. She was found to have multiple outstanding warrants. During a search, officers located a knife, a needle, and counterfeit cash in her possession. She was transported to the Springfield Municipal Jail on five warrants out of Springfield Municipal Court for Failure to Appear on charges related to Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, and Harassment.

- Officers responded to a dispute between neighbors in which an individual repeatedly entered a neighborโ€™s property and attempted to cover a security camera light with a black bag. While officers explained that she would receive a citation for trespassing, she became increasingly disruptive and refused to acknowledge she was under arrest. Officers attempted to safely detain her, at which point she tried to pull away and retreat into her residence. She was ultimately taken into custody and lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree (ORS 164.245), Criminal Mischief (ORS 164.345), Resisting Arrest (ORS 162.315), and Attempted Escape in the Third Degree (ORS 162.145)

- Officers responded to reports of multiple horses loose near Gateway Boulevard and Main Street. The owners were aware of the situation and safely returned the horses to their property without further incident.

Please note: This is a summary of select calls for service. Officers respond to many additional calls each day that are not included in this update.
