🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Cottonwood Police Department is warning residents about a scam targeting customers of local banks and credit unions.

Scammers are posing as federal fraud investigators and falsely claiming that a financial institution is being shut down. Victims are being told to withdraw funds, transfer money, or even send cash via FedEx to protect their money from seizure or loss.

These claims are false. If you receive a call, text, or email making these claims:

❌ Do not provide personal or account information.
❌ Do not withdraw, transfer, or mail funds.
✅ Contact your financial institution directly using official contact information.

The Cottonwood Police Department Teen Academy still has spots available for this summer!

This exciting 4-day, hands-on program is open to students ages 15–18 and offers a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement. Participants will experience patrol tactics, SWAT and K9 demonstrations, 911 communications, investigations, and much more.

Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Report

On May 20, 2026, the Cottonwood Police Department received a report that an unknown male suspect had kidnapped a juvenile female at gun point in a business parking lot near the intersection of West State Route 89A and 12th Street in Cottonwood. It was further reported that the victim was forced to drive the male suspect around the city, and was sexually assaulted. The suspect eventually fled on foot, after which the victim and her family contacted 911.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 50 years of age, white, thin build, wearing a camo jacket or hoodie, gray jean-like shorts and a mask covering his face. The Department is asking for assistance from the public, or anyone that may have information about this incident to contact (928) 634-4246 ext.2245. Information may also be reported to Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.

Recently Chief Brian Freudenthal met with Consul General of Mexico, Mr. Jorge Mendoza Yescas as part of their Annual Outreach Tour 2026.

This annual visit provides an opportunity to reaffirm the strong ties of cooperation between the institutions and maintain open lines of communication.
