Introducing: A-Shift Probationary Firefighter Justin Gherman!

“Hello, my name is Justin Gherman, and I’ve been a firefighter for the City of Cottonwood for the past 9 months. 

Whenever I’m not at the station, I find myself spending my free time outdoors. I’ve always enjoyed hiking, hunting, and overall just being outside and staying active. Before getting into the fire service, I worked in the electrical field. I enjoyed the hands-on work and figuring things out when problems came up. 

I decided to become a firefighter because I wanted to serve my communities more and pursue a career that would challenge me and my skills regularly. I’m excited to learn, gain experience, and see where this career takes me over the coming years. 

I’m thankful for the opportunities that the City of Cottonwood has given me. Stay safe out there.”

Tradition runs deep in Cottonwood. 🏈🚒
From playing under the Friday night lights at Mingus Union High School to watching our own kids take the field today, so many of us at Cottonwood Fire call this valley home. Supporting events like the Marauders Alumni Football Game isn’t just an duty for us—it’s personal.
Bringing generations of players, families, and neighbors back together is what makes this community special. We are proud to serve the town that raised us and support the next generation coming up behind us.

Lifting of Stage 1 Fire Restrictions within the City of Cottonwood and Yavapai County🔥📣

Effective Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., Stage 1 Fire Restrictions will be lifted within the City of Cottonwood and Yavapai County.

This decision follows an evaluation of current fire danger conditions, recent weather patterns, fuel moisture levels, and recommendations from local and regional fire management agencies. Improved environmental conditions have reduced the immediate wildfire risk, allowing for the removal of Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.

Although the restrictions are being lifted, residents and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue practicing responsible fire safety. Wildfire potential remains throughout the fire season, and everyone should exercise caution when using equipment or engaging in activities that could ignite a fire.

The public is reminded to:
• Use caution with any outdoor activities that could generate sparks or open flames.
• Properly extinguish campfires and recreational fires where permitted.
• Never discard ci******es or smoking materials on the ground or from vehicles.
• Report any signs of smoke or wildfire immediately by calling 911.

Fire officials will continue to monitor weather conditions, fuel conditions, and wildfire activity throughout the season. If conditions warrant, fire restrictions may be reinstated to protect public safety, property, and natural resources.

Help us supply students with the tools they need to succeed! The Cottonwood Fire Department will be running a school supply drive on July 25th from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Walmart Cottonwood. All donations will go to Cottonwood-Oak Creek Schools.
