STAGE I FIRE RESTRICTIONS

Verde Valley Fire District will enact Stage I Fire Restrictions beginning at 8:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in coordination with Yavapai County and the United States Forest Service (USFS).

Under Stage I Fire Restrictions:

NOT ALLOWED:

Campfires: Only allowed in official, developed campgrounds. No fires are allowed in the backcountry or “dispersed” camping sites.

Smoking: Only allowed indoors, inside a vehicle, or in a cleared area with a minimum 3-foot dirt circle.

Fireworks: Completely banned.

Engines: Any motorized equipment (chainsaws, ATVs, etc.) must have a properly installed and working spark arrestor.

ALLOWED:

Devices fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG (like propane stoves or lanterns) that have a simple on/off switch are still allowed.

Fires are permitted only in a specific locations: backyard fire pits and official campfire rings or grills at designated Forest Service campgrounds. All areas around the fire must be cleared of any flammable debris.

Target shooting.

These restrictions are in place due to increasing fire danger and dry conditions throughout the area. Thank you for helping keep our communities fire safe this summer!

Yesterday, Fire Marshal Bailey and Fire Inspector Koehler visited the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District Bus Barn to provide hands-on fire extinguisher training. Staff members learned the importance of quick action during a fire emergency, how to properly operate a fire extinguisher, and when it is safe to use one.

We appreciate the opportunity to work with the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District and help provide valuable fire safety education to those who help keep our students safe every day. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the training a success!
