๐Ÿ“โœจ STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MRS. LAURIE ALTRINGER! โœจ๐Ÿ“

At COCSD, we believe in meeting students where they areโ€”and giving them opportunities to soar when theyโ€™re ready! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

โž• Each year, many of our 8th grade math standouts have the opportunity to take Advanced Algebra I with the amazing Mrs. Laurie Altringer at Verde Tech High School. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿงฎ Even better? Students who successfully complete the course can get a head start by earning high school math credit! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿค This year, the classroom is growing! Weโ€™re excited to welcome 8th grade students from Clarkdale and Immaculate Conception who are joining COCSD students for Advanced Algebra I. ๐Ÿ’ซ We love seeing students from across our community learning, collaborating, and challenging themselves together! ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿคฉ

And Mrs. Altringer isnโ€™t stopping at Algebra I! โž—โœ–๏ธ She is also teaching Algebra II to Verde Tech High School students on the CES campus this year. ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ“ˆ

From building strong math foundations in our youngest learners ๐ŸŽ to opening doors to advanced coursework as students are ready ๐Ÿšชโœจ, weโ€™re proud to create opportunities for students to grow, achieve, and reach their next level! ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŽ“

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š Thank you, Mrs. Altringer, for challenging our students, supporting their growth, and making MATH add up to BIG opportunities! ๐Ÿงฎโž•๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ“šโœจ COCSD Literacy Spotlight | Ms. Valencia, CCS Librarian โœจ๐Ÿ“š

What does it really mean to be brave? ๐ŸŒŸ

Set during the golden age of the Jedi, Star Wars: The High Republic: Jedi Brave in Every Way follows a group of younglings aboard the Starlight Beacon who are nervous about the next big step in their trainingโ€”becoming Padawans.

To help them face their fears, Grand Master Yoda calls on a special friend: Burryaga, a gentle Wookiee Padawan. Burryaga shares how, as a child, he was afraid to climb the towering trees of Kashyyykโ€”and the important lesson he learned along the way.

๐Ÿ’™ True bravery doesnโ€™t mean never being afraid. It means finding the courage to move forward anyway.

Through stories like this one, our librarians help students discover that books can do more than take us on incredible adventuresโ€”they can help us understand our emotions, build confidence, and see the strength within ourselves.

Thank you, Ms. Valencia, for building readers, inspiring futures, and helping our CCS students discover the power of a great book! ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’ซ

๐Ÿธ๐Ÿ“š Mr. Toad got a makeover! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿธ

Our DDB Falcons in 3rd grade wrapped up their first CKLA unit, The Wind in the Willows, in the most creative wayโ€”by disguising Mr. Toad! ๐ŸŽฉ๐Ÿฅธ

The students put their creativity to work as they transformed Mr. Toad into some very clever characters. What a fun way to celebrate all their learning from Unit 1! ๐Ÿ’š

Way to go, 3rd grade! We love seeing our Falcons learn, create, and have fun! ๐Ÿฆ…โœจ

๐ŸŽ Highlights from the COCSD Governing Board Meeting!

It was a great evening celebrating partnerships, leadership, and the work happening across the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District!

๐Ÿ”ฌ Science Vortex Partnership โ€“ Mrs. Laurie Altringer shared the many ways Science Vortex partners with COCSD to bring hands-on STEAM learning to our students and families, including Camp Innovation, BioBlitz, coding and robotics, field trips, and free community programs.

๐Ÿ‘ Celebrating Our Principals โ€“ Our COCSD principals were recognized for their leadership, commitment to school safety, professional growth, and the incredible work they do each day for students, staff, and families.

๐Ÿ“˜ Governing Board & Volunteer Handbooks โ€“ The Board approved the revised Governing Board Handbook as well as a new Volunteer Handbook designed to strengthen expectations and student safety for volunteers and community partners.

๐Ÿ“š Student Learning โ€“ The Board heard encouraging updates on reading and math trends while also discussing continued efforts to strengthen early literacy and kindergarten readiness.

๐Ÿซ Facilities & Community Engagement โ€“ Updates were shared from our recent community facilities tour, highlighting the importance of keeping our schools safe, functional, and ready to serve students.

We are grateful for our Governing Board, staff, families, and community partners who continue to support COCSD students and schools! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽ
