¡Hola! Soy Timothy Andre, su Inspector de Incendios local de La Salle County Fire Rescue.

Si va a viajar este verano, aquí tiene un consejo de seguridad contra incendios que mucha gente desconoce.

Antes de reservar un hotel, considere consultar la Lista Maestra Nacional de Hoteles y Moteles de la FEMA. Este recurso identifica los hoteles y moteles que cuentan con medidas de protección contra incendios, como sistemas funcionales de detección de humo, sistemas de alarma contra incendios y rociadores automáticos (donde sean obligatorios).

Una vez que llegue a su hotel, dedique un minuto a prepararse para una posible emergencia:

✅ Localice las dos salidas más cercanas a su habitación.

🗺️ Revise el mapa de evacuación que se encuentra en la parte posterior de la puerta.

🚪 Cuente el número de puertas que hay entre su habitación y la escalera más cercana.

🚫 Nunca utilice los ascensores durante una emergencia por incendio.

Muchos incendios en hoteles son pequeños y se controlan rápidamente, pero conocer su ruta de escape antes de que ocurra una emergencia puede ahorrar un tiempo valioso cuando cada segundo cuenta.

Howdy! This is Timothy Andre, your local Fire Marshal with La Salle County Fire Rescue.

If you're traveling this summer, here's a fire safety tip many people don't know about.

Before booking a hotel, consider checking FEMA's Hotel-Motel National Master List. This resource identifies hotels and motels that have fire protection features in place, such as working smoke detection systems, fire alarm systems, and automatic fire sprinklers where required.

Once you arrive at your hotel, take just one minute to prepare yourself in case of an emergency:

✅ Locate the two nearest exits from your room.

🗺️ Review the evacuation map posted on the back of your door.

🚪 Count the number of doors between your room and the nearest stairwell.

🚫 Never use elevators during a fire emergency.

Many hotel fires are small and quickly controlled, but knowing your escape route before an emergency happens can save valuable time when seconds matter most.

Fire safety doesn't stop when you leave home. A little preparation can make a big difference.

Use caution when working outdoors, drink plenty of fluids, and try to stay indoors if you are able.

Howdy! This is Timothy Andre, your local Fire Marshal with La Salle County Fire Rescue.

As travel season continues, here's a simple fire safety tip that could make a big difference when staying in a hotel.

When you check into your room, take a few moments to familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Locate the nearest exit and identify a second way out in case your primary exit is blocked. Count the number of doors between your room and the nearest exit so you can find your way even in low visibility conditions.

Look for:
✅ Exit signs and stairwells
✅ The evacuation map posted on the back of your room door
✅ Smoke alarms and fire sprinklers in your room
✅ A safe reunification area outside and away from the fire area

If you are traveling with children, people with disabilities, elderly citizens, or people with a language barrier make sure to communicate all of the relevant information!

If a fire occurs, use the stairs—never the elevator. Before opening your room door, feel it with the back of your hand. If it's hot, do not open it. If you encounter smoke, stay low and move toward the nearest safe exit.

Most hotel stays are uneventful, but spending just a minute learning your escape route can help you react quickly if an emergency occurs.

¡Hola! Soy Timothy Andre, el Fire Marshal de bomberos local del Departamento de Bomberos y Rescate del condado de La Salle.

Ahora que la temporada de viajes sigue en marcha, aquí tienes un sencillo consejo de seguridad contra incendios que puede marcar una gran diferencia cuando te alojes en un hotel.

Cuando te registres en tu habitación, dedica unos minutos a familiarizarte con el entorno. Localiza la salida más cercana e identifica una segunda vía de evacuación por si la salida principal estuviera bloqueada. Cuenta el número de puertas que hay entre tu habitación y la salida más cercana para que puedas encontrar el camino incluso en condiciones de baja visibilidad.

Busca:
✅ Señales de salida y escaleras de incendios
✅ El plano de evacuación colocado en la parte trasera de la puerta de tu habitación
✅ Detectores de humo y rociadores contra incendios en tu habitación
✅ Una zona de reunión segura en el exterior y alejada de la zona del incendio

Si viaja con niños, personas con discapacidad, personas mayores o personas con barreras lingüísticas, ¡asegúrese de comunicar toda la información relevante!

Si se produce un incendio, utilice las escaleras, nunca el ascensor. Antes de abrir la puerta de su habitación, tóquela con el dorso de la mano. Si está caliente, no la abra. Si te encuentras con humo, mantente agachado y dirígete hacia la salida de emergencia más cercana.

La mayoría de las estancias en hoteles transcurren sin incidentes, pero dedicar tan solo un minuto a conocer tu ruta de evacuación puede ayudarte a reaccionar rápidamente si se produce una emergencia.

¡Hola! Soy Timothy Andre, el Fire Marshal de bomberos local del Departamento de Bomberos y Rescate del condado de La Salle.

Una de las preguntas más habituales que me hacen sobre los sistemas de rociadores contra incendios domésticos es: «¿No se activarán todos los rociadores a la vez?».

La respuesta es no.

Los rociadores contra incendios residenciales están diseñados para que cada cabezal funcione de forma independiente. Cada rociador contiene un elemento sensible al calor que se activa solo cuando la temperatura del techo alcanza aproximadamente los 57–74 °C. En la mayoría de los incendios domésticos, solo se activa el rociador más cercano al fuego.

«Bueno, ¿y si tengo aparatos electrónicos delicados?»

El fuego, el calor y el humo causan mucho más daño a los aparatos electrónicos y objetos de valor que el que causaría jamás un solo rociador activado.

«¿Y si guardo mis pertenencias en una caja fuerte ignífuga?»

Por desgracia, no existe nada que sea totalmente ignífugo. Hay fabricantes que crean materiales resistentes al fuego, pero en circunstancias extremas estos fallarán. Son excelentes para ganar un poco de tiempo, pero al final el material fallará, lo que provocará la pérdida total del contenido.

Cuando se activa un rociador, aplica agua directamente sobre el fuego de forma inmediata, lo que ayuda a controlarlo o extinguirlo mientras aún es pequeño. Esto puede reducir drásticamente la propagación del fuego, los daños materiales y, lo más importante, aumentar las posibilidades de que todos salgan sanos y salvos.

Piénsalo de esta manera:
🚨 Las alarmas de humo te avisan de un incendio.
💧 Los rociadores contra incendios ayudan a combatir el fuego.
🚒 Los bomberos terminan el trabajo.

Los sistemas de rociadores residenciales han salvado innumerables vidas y son uno de los dispositivos de protección contra incendios más eficaces que existen en un hogar.

Howdy! This is Timothy Andre, your local Fire Marshal with La Salle County Fire Rescue.

One of the most common questions I hear about home fire sprinkler systems is, "Won't all the sprinkler heads go off at once?"

The answer is no.

Residential fire sprinklers are designed so that each sprinkler head operates independently. Each sprinkler contains a heat-sensitive element that activates only when temperatures at the ceiling reach approximately 135–165°F. In most home fires, only the sprinkler closest to the fire activates.

"Well, what if I have sensitive electronics?"

Fire, heat, and smoke cause far more damage to electronics and valuables than a single activated sprinkler head ever will.

"What if I just keep my belonging in a fire proof safe?"

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as fireproof. There are manufacturers that create fire resistant material, but given extenuating circumstances these will fail. These are great for a temporary delay, but ultimately the material will fail resulting in a total loss of contents.

When a sprinkler activates, it immediately applies water directly to the fire, helping control or extinguish it while it's still small. This can dramatically reduce fire growth, property damage, and most importantly, increase the chances of everyone getting out safely.

Think of it this way:
🚨 Smoke alarms alert you to a fire.
💧 Fire sprinklers help fight the fire.
🚒 Firefighters finish the job.

Residential sprinkler systems have saved countless lives and are one of the most effective fire protection features available in a home.

On June 8, 2026, a sample collected from a La Salle County calf was confirmed to be NWS. This is the fifth confirmed case in Texas.

The existing infested zone in La Salle will be expanded to reflect movement restrictions and surveillance around the new case, and the infested zone in Gillespie County can be viewed on the TAHC interactive map: https://bit.ly/NWS-ZoneMap

Animal owners in and around these areas should continue to implement wound prevention practices and promptly report suspicions.
