Dear Grand Coulee Dam School District Families,

I am writing to share some important news about the leadership of our Special Education Department.

As many of you know, Kathryn Logue, our Special Education Director, has resigned to accept a position with the Nespelem School District. We are grateful for her years of service to our students and families and wish her well in this new role. Her departure creates a need for interim director-level support, and I want to let you know how we are addressing it.

To ensure our Special Education Department continues to meet the needs of our students with disabilities, Grand Coulee Dam School District has entered into a partnership with the North Central Educational Service District (NCESD) for experienced leadership. Leanne Lafferty will serve as our 26-27 Itinerant, Interim Special Education Director. Leanne has been with NCESD for 16 years, bringing vast knowledge and experience in the field along with a long history of supporting students and staff here in Grand Coulee Dam School District. In this role, she will provide critical oversight and guidance to our leadership team and teaching staff.

With Leanne serving us in a hybrid model of in-person and virtual support from Wenatchee, we will have Rachel Harris, as the on-site lead for the department. Rachel will be the primary point of contact for staff and families here in the district, and she will be closely connected to Leanne in support of the day-to-day operation of the department.

We want to reassure you that this partnership will not disrupt services for students receiving special education support. IEPs, evaluations, and related services will continue without interruption.

Dear Raider Family,
I am excited to share an important update as we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year. Beginning this fall, the Grand Coulee Dam School District will partner with Coulee Medical Center to provide school nursing services and lead the operation of our student health room.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment between our district and Coulee Medical Center to support the health, well-being, and academic success of every student. The Coulee Medical Center school nursing team will serve as a valuable resource for our students, families, and staff by promoting healthy lifestyles, managing student health needs, supporting chronic health conditions, providing health education, and helping ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
We know that healthy students are better prepared to learn, grow, and thrive. By strengthening the connection between healthcare and education, this partnership will enhance the support available to our students while continuing to foster a culture of wellness throughout our schools. We are excited to welcome the Coulee Medical Center team and look forward to building strong relationships that will benefit our entire school community.
As we begin this new chapter, I also want to recognize and sincerely thank our former district nurse, Elizabeth Poplawski, for her outstanding service and unwavering dedication to the students, families, and staff of the Grand Coulee Dam School District. Elizabeth has made a lasting impact through her compassionate care, professionalism, and commitment to student health over the past two years. We are deeply grateful for her many contributions and wish her a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.
Again, please join me in welcoming our new partners from Coulee Medical Center and in thanking Nurse Poplawski for her remarkable career of service. I am confident this partnership will continue to strengthen the care and support we provide to our students, and I look forward to the opportunities ahead as we begin this new era together.
