Colors were blooming at our Summer Reading Program today!

We read Flower Talk by Sara Levine and learned all about how plants use color to communicate with pollinators like bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, moths and bats.

Did you know?

🌼 Bright flower colors help attract pollinators.

🐝 Bees are often drawn to yellow, blue and purple flowers.

🦋 Butterflies like bright flowers with a good place to land.

🌺 Hummingbirds are often attracted to red, tube-shaped flowers.

🌙 Some pale or white flowers bloom at night to attract moths and bats.

Celebrate Coulter's 125th Anniversary and learn a little history along the way!

Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet tomorrow during Fun Day, explore Coulter, fill it out and return it to Coulter Public Library for a prize!

Hint: some answers can be found in the book Coulter, Iowa 1901-2001, available at the library!

The Coulter Scavenger Hunt will be available all summer long.

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we kicked off summer reading at the library today!

We read Lola Plants a Garden by Anna Mcquinn and Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt by Kate Messner.

We also sang a song about vegetables, learned what happens up in the garden and down in the dirt, made a garden in a bag, and snacked on dirt cups!

Coulter Public Library is excited to announce our 2026 Summer Reading Program!

Join us every Tuesday from June 16 through August 11 for stories, crafts, games, activities, and fun surprises each week. This summer, we’re celebrating how stories help us GROW- one book, one activity, and one adventure at a time!

🌼 Daycare & Preschool: 10:00–10:45 a.m.
🌻 Kindergarten–6th Grade: 1:00–2:00 p.m.

Readers of all ages are invited to dig into new books, spark curiosity, and watch their imaginations bloom.

Be on the lookout for fun adult programs and reading challenges this summer too! 🌱

Coulter Public Library is happy to help families register for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!

This wonderful program is completely free for children ages 5 and under and sends books directly to your home to help encourage a love of reading from an early age.

Stop by the library to register or pick up the forms. We would be happy to help you get started!

Did you know Coulter Public Library is the only location in Franklin County hosting Iowa PBS’s Revolutionary Iowans display?

This special exhibit is a perfect way to celebrate both America’s 250th anniversary and Coulter’s 125th anniversary. The display highlights inspiring Iowans whose lives, work, and leadership helped shape our state’s history.

The display will be up during Coulter Fun Day, and will remain available through the 4th of July, so be sure to stop in, take a look, and learn about some Revolutionary Iowans!
