Yesterday’s storms kept our local fire departments BUSY!

From storm damage and accidents to medical calls, grass fires, potential house fires, and everything in between, our firefighters were out serving our communities through it all.
While responding to a smoke call in FAIC Fire Department area, one of PPFD’s firefighters was first on scene and quickly discovered an air compressor inside the home that was smoking and beginning to catch fire. They immediately pulled the compressor and surrounding pieces of flooring out of the home, preventing the fire from spreading and saving the structure from further damage.
And they weren’t done yet! On the way out of the neighborhood, the crew came across a tree blocking the roadway and took care of that obstacle too.
We are incredibly thankful for the strong working relationships we have with all of our surrounding departments.
As volunteer departments, there are times when we simply find ourselves short-staffed while calls continue to come in. That’s when our neighboring departments become more than just mutual aid .. they become our brothers and sisters standing beside us.
Yesterday was another reminder of just how fortunate we are to have so many dedicated firefighters across our county who are willing to answer the call, help their neighbors, and work together.
To every firefighter who was out there yesterday and EVERYDAY .. THANK YOU! Your time, dedication, courage, and willingness to help others never go unnoticed.
One county. Many departments. One team.

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS RECOGNITION DAY

Today is a day to recognize and honor the men and women who answer the call...not because they have to, but because they choose to serve their communities.

Approximately 80% of Oklahoma’s firefighters are volunteers. Without these dedicated men and women, communities across our state could face dangerously delayed response times and limited resources when emergencies happen.

Today, we want to say THANK YOU to every volunteer firefighter, every volunteer fire department, and every mutual aid department that shows up when their community needs them most.

We are thankful for the countless hours spent training, responding to calls, fundraising, maintaining equipment, attending meetings, conferences, working community events, and sacrificing time with family to help others. We are thankful for the organizations, companies, families, and communities that support these departments and make their work possible.

Behind every volunteer firefighter is a department full of people who give their time, energy, and heart to protecting others.

To every volunteer firefighter and mutual aid department: THANK YOU for your service, your dedication, your courage, and your commitment to your communities.

You may volunteer your time, but the impact you make is priceless.

Take a look at a plant sitting outside in this Oklahoma heat. Give it plenty of water and it stays green, strong, and healthy. But let it go without enough water for just a day in extreme heat, and it can wilt, dry up, and look completely lifeless.

Your body is no different.

Every day in this heat, your body loses water through sweat...even when you don't realize how much you're sweating. If you don't replace those fluids, dehydration can quickly take a toll.

It can start with thirst, dry mouth, headache, tiredness, dizziness, weakness, muscle cramps, and dark-colored urine. As dehydration becomes more severe, your body can struggle to cool itself, your heart works harder, and you can become confused, weak, or even lose consciousness.

Don't wait until you feel thirsty to drink.

Keep water with you. Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Drink fluids regularly, especially if you're working or playing outside, and remember that children, older adults, and people working in the heat can become dehydrated especially quickly.

From your local volunteer firefighters: Please take the heat seriously. Hydrate, look out for your neighbors, and don't wait until it's an emergency to take care of yourself.

Water isn't just something you drink when you're thirsty—it's something your body needs to keep you alive. 💧

Today we joined our friends at Tiger Mountain Rural Fire Department for a CPR class. We always enjoy training alongside all of our other departments.

A little after 11:00 p.m. last night, Paradise Point Fire Department was paged out to assist Hitchita Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire.
Hitchita also called in Council Hill Volunteer Fire Dept for additional assistance. All three departments worked together well to get the job done.
Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the fire, and everyone was safely off scene around 2:40 a.m.
A huge thank you to all of our firefighters worked through the night to help their community and surrounding departments. This is what teamwork and volunteer fire service are all about.
Stay safe, and thank you to all of our neighboring departments for always being there when we need each other!

Keep in mind how dry the conditions are right now before you have anything that can potentially produce a spark or flame. Although there is no burn ban in effect right now- burning is not suggested at this time.
