Fire Academy Graduation | Class of 2026 🚒🎓

Last night, Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue and South Whidbey Fire/EMS joined forces once again to celebrate an incredible milestone: 14 Fire Academy graduates crossing the threshold to become volunteer firefighters.

Reaching this moment took months of intense physical and mental training, long evenings, immense personal sacrifice, and the determination to overcome every challenge placed before them. Along the way, these recruits learned to trust one another, work as a team, and continue pushing forward when the work got hard.

None of this would be possible without the instructors and fire service professionals who shared their time, knowledge, and years of experience to prepare the next generation of firefighters to serve their communities.

To our 14 graduates: we could not be more proud of what you have accomplished.

Congratulations on reaching this milestone, and welcome to the fire family. ❤️🚒

With a fresh crew, Engine 54 is now in its third week fighting the Little Giant fire in Entiat.
Firefighters Kole Kellison, Andreas De Koster and Richard Varshock were recently relieved by Travis Dotson, Jared Frye and Justin Burnett.
Both crews have worked largely along the Entiat river, engaging in firefighting, assisting homeowners with structure preparation and hunting down hot spots.
Overall fire containment is increasing and Engine 54 is scheduled to return home this week.

🔥 COMMUNITY REMINDER: TYPE II BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT 🔥

With our continued dry summer conditions, please remember that the Type II Burn Ban remains in effect throughout unincorporated Island County.

While outdoor burning is prohibited, there are other ways everyday activities can accidentally start a fire. A few reminders:

🔥 Check your tow chains — make sure they aren't dragging on the roadway where they can create sparks.

🚗 Avoid parking on dry grass — hot exhaust components can ignite dry vegetation underneath your vehicle.

🌿 Be cautious with outdoor equipment — lawn mowers, w**d trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment can create heat or sparks around dry vegetation.

🚬 Dispose of smoking materials completely and safely — never toss ci******es or other smoking materials outdoors.

A little extra caution can prevent a wildfire.
