Taking COVID-19 seriously

The number of cases are hitting record levels across our state and the country. Island County is no exception as our cases continue to increase. Let's take this seriously. You don't have to have underlying health conditions to experience severe effects of COVID. Read Susan's story to see how it's effected her.

When Susan was diagnosed with COVID-19 in the Spring, she was a healthy woman in her late 30s with no underlying health conditions.

Everyone. Every time.

When we head to the store or run errands we wear a mask to protect people we probably don't even know. Are we also wearing a mask around those we care about? Let's protect our friends and families. Wear a mask with everyone who doesn't live with you, every time.

It's time to make some hard choices about our holiday gatherings. These choices can either help slow the spread of COVID in Island County and keep our community healthy or not. We want to thank those who have already made these hard decisions and encourage those still making their plans to keep them small, wear masks with extended family and friends, prepare and serve food in a way to avoid communal use and stay local.

Vaccines are in phase 3 clinical trials but there's no definitive time when a vaccine will be available to the majority of people. We hope it's soon, but the reality might very be different. Fortunately, we know what will help keep us safe and healthy. Masking, hand washing and maintaining 6 feet needs to continue until a vaccine is widely available. Keep it up to keep our numbers down!

Typically, it can take months for a vaccine to become available after it receives FDA authorization or approval, but in the case of a COVID-19 vaccine, it could be a matter of days. CDC is already planning, in collaboration with many partners, for delivering vaccines. Experts are working on figuring out how to give these limited vaccines in a fair, ethical, and transparent way. The goal is for everyone to be able to easily get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as large quantities are available.

WTF? How about updating the online COVID-19 cases? You guys are 28 cases behind.
I follow the Covid 19 numbers on the Island County Public Health website. In this county, as in the rest of the state, and the country, the total number of cases only increases daily. In this county of about 86,000 people, there have been 375 cases reported as of Friday. Two weeks ago, that number was 329. It only goes up, never down. 12 people died early on (March - May). Assuming it takes about 10 - 14 days to recover, to me that means that approx 317 (329 - 12) people have likely recovered and up to 46 people out of 86,000 are currently recovering either in quarantine or in a hospital (they never tell us how many are hospitalized). That works out to about 0.0535% of the population in this county. With all the sophisticated graphs and charts on the website, why do you NEVER show us these numbers? It's pretty simple math.
I've heard from numerous people that the NAS does not report its COVID numbers to the CDC. Is that true? Are their numbers included in the Island County reports? Thank you!
How about some info on your website? All it reads is: "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable"
A lot of postings keep showing up from folks selling food most likely being prepped in home kitchens. I know times are hard and folks are trying to make ends meet but I have serious problems with the preparation and sale of food being done by folks that probably have no health certificate, may or may not have a food handlers card, and likely working out of a non commercial kitchen that has never been inspected and not in compliance with cottage laws. Could someone please monitor these posts and investigate. https://www.facebook.com/groups/whidbeyislandcommunity/permalink/3437975929556335/
Can we please get a "recovered" number for COVID? Incomplete information isnt helping anyone.
Are we not allowed to listen to the meeting going on right now?
Question. Do the plastic face shields work instead of a cloth mask? Will they meet the mask mandate?
When are you going to start testing for antibodies. That would tell you more about who has had the virus?
Shouldn't Camano deaths be
Satanic ritual of mask wearing and hypoxia! Stop this now!
Can you please confirm that Island County has banned the use of vascular neck restraints (choke-holds) by county law enforcement?
