You might recognize this Ag Professional as one of Southampton County's own ! Go Taylor !

Taylor Cross grew up on her family's first-generation row crop farm in Southampton County, Virginia, where they produce cotton, peanuts, soybeans, and corn. Her passion for agriculture developed at a young age through helping on the farm and participating in livestock projects through 4-H. She earned a degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering Technology from North Carolina State University before moving to Nebraska to pursue a Master of Science in Mechanized Systems Management. Her graduate research focused on improving nitrogen management in corn production through the use of sensor-based drone technology. Following graduate school, Taylor began her career with Industries/CNH Industrial and now serves as a Precision Ag Specialist, providing technical expertise and training to dealers and technicians on field computers, application and boom controls, guidance and steering solutions, and connectivity technologies. After spending four years in Nebraska, she recently returned to Southampton County and is excited to reconnect with Virginia agriculture. She also works with the American Peanut Council to support grower enrollment in sustainability initiatives across Virginia and the Carolinas. Through the VALOR program, Taylor hopes to continue developing as a leader, expand her network, and contribute to the future of Virginia agriculture.

Taylor shares, "After recently returning home to Virginia, I am excited to be a VALOR Fellow and reconnect with the agricultural community that first inspired my passion for the industry. I look forward to developing my leadership skills and contributing to the future of Virginia agriculture."

Here is the Franklin-Southampton County Fair schedule you all ! Especially note tomorrow Aug 4 morning's horticulture exhibits check-in. Bring your crops, have your kids bring their crops. Go pick some flowers and chunk them (artistically, of course) in a jar and bring them. We would love to see and SHOW OFF all that Southampton grows ! Horticulture (farming) is THE economic engine of the county. That's something to be proud of !

Powhatan VCE would like to share the Virginia General Assembly's survey for agricultural producers across the state as part of a review of the Virginia Agricultural Best Management Practices Cost Share (VACS) Program. The VACS program provides state funding each year to help producers implement best management practices on agricultural land.

Purpose of the Survey
The survey asks you to share your experiences with the funding and technical assistance available to producers through the VACS program. Your input will help the state improve the program, as needed. Any recommendations to improve the program will be made in a public report to be released in September.

Confidentiality of Responses
Your response to this survey is confidential, and no personally-identifying information will be collected. Your candor is important. Only summaries of everyone’s responses will be reported. Staff from the state and your local soil and water conservation district will not know if you have taken part in this survey, nor will they see your response.

The survey will take between 5 and 15 minutes to complete. Please submit your response by Monday, August 3rd.
