‼️Update. The National Weather Service has expanded the Red Flag across central and northern Minnesota. Additional counties include: Aitkin, Beltrami, Benton, Carlton, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kanabec, Koochiching, Lake Of The Woods, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, St. Louis, Stearns, Todd, and Wadena ‼️
Due to dry conditions, high winds, and low humidity, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, May 14, for parts of northwest, west central, and southwest Minnesota.

While the Red Flag Warning is in effect:
❌Don’t burn brush and yard debris!
⚠️Be extra cautious with outdoor activities that could produce heat or a spark. Campfires are discouraged.
✔️Check ash piles from wood-burning stoves or heaters and any recent fire for lingering heat. Embers can stay hot for days, even months, and rekindle in Red Flag conditions. If you find heat, drown with water, stir, and repeat until it's out COLD.

‼️The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Friday, May 15, for most of central and northern Minnesota. Fire Weather Watches are evolving situations and can quickly progress to Red Flag conditions. Use caution and check conditions before burning.

Remember, only you can prevent wildfires!

Burning restrictions are in place for many counties. Check current fire danger and restrictions at www.mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions

Our department would like to help support an important cause that impacts many families in our communities.

Local Courtland residents Jeff & Sue Brandes are participating in the “Dancing Like the Stars” fundraiser benefiting 2B CONTINUED, a nonprofit dedicated to su***de prevention, mental health awareness, and education across our region.

This event brings together community members from several counties to raise funds and awareness for programs that help people recognize when someone may be struggling and connect them with support.

If you’d like to support Jeff & Sue and help raise funds for su***de prevention, you can donate through the link below. Every contribution helps make a difference.

Courtland Fire and Rescue reminds you: after the snow, make sure your local hydrant can be easily seen and reached!
Clear 3 feet around it — your neighbors & firefighters will thank you! 🚒❄️

We were honored to have Sophina and her mom Connie Renee join us last night. What they’re doing across Minnesota is incredible — taking the time to visit departments, share their story, and remind first responders that their lives matter. Their message hits hard in the best way possible.

Mental health awareness is a huge deal for firefighters, cops, EMTs, and all first responders. We see and carry things most people never have to. Sophina’s mission brings light to that — she reminds us to take care of our minds and hearts just like we take care of our gear. It’s okay to talk about it, and it’s okay to need help. That’s how we keep each other strong.

Big thanks to Design Home Center for donating the pizza and to everyone who helped make the night special. Sophina’s “Life Coins” and her message of hope will stick with our crew for a long time.

Fun fact: Sophina’s mom makes the most amazing cookies — she brings them to every department, and somehow, they always show up warm!

Today we join Minnesotans in honoring our fallen firefighters — those who stood on the front lines, protecting neighbors and communities across this great state.

We will never forget their service, sacrifice, and the families who carry on their legacy. 🚒🇺🇸
