Two weekends ago, the Coventry High School NJROTC cadets, alongside the Oxford High School NJROTC unit, had the incredible opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for an immersive leadership and history field trip that brought classroom lessons to life.
Cadets explored the rich history and traditions of our nation by visiting some of America’s most iconic landmarks and institutions. Highlights included a tour of the United States Capitol, witnessing the solemn Changing of the Guard and a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, and visiting the inspiring National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia.
Students also explored the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, where they experienced the history of aviation and space exploration firsthand, including legendary aircraft such as the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird and the Space Shuttle Discovery.
The trip continued with visits to the monuments and memorials on the National Mall, including the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and World War II Memorial, as well as several Smithsonian museums.
Experiences like these help our cadets develop a deeper appreciation for leadership, service, sacrifice, and the history of our nation and military. We are proud of the professionalism, respect, and maturity our cadets displayed throughout the trip.
Bravo Zulu to all involved for making this an unforgettable educational experience!
