This week, we proudly recognize the dedicated EMS professionals who answer the call day and night to serve our community. During EMS Week, we thank our paramedics, EMTs, and first responders for their compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to helping others during life’s most critical moments.

From medical emergencies and accidents to providing comfort during difficult times, EMS personnel are there when people need them most. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but the impact they make is felt throughout our entire community every single day.

Ever wondered how to request public records? The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives you the right to access certain government documents and information.

Here’s what you need to know:

🔹 FOIA allows the public to request records from government agencies, including police, fire, & EMS reports, documents, and certain recordings.
🔹 Requests must be submitted in writing (email or in person).
🔹 You’ll need to include details like your name, contact information (including mailing address and phone number and/or email address), and specifics about the records you're requesting.
🔹 Some information may be redacted or withheld to protect privacy or sensitive investigations.
🔹 Processing times and fees may apply depending on the request.

🩸 Community Blood Drive – Covert Public Schools 🩸

Covert Township residents have another opportunity to make a life-saving difference right here in our community.

Every blood donation has the power to help patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatments, trauma care, and other medical emergencies. Just one donation can help save up to three lives.

❤️ Did You Know?
• Someone in the U.S. needs blood every 2 seconds.
• Only about 3% of eligible people donate blood each year.
• A single donation typically takes less than 10 minutes, but the impact can last a lifetime.
• Blood cannot be manufactured — it can only come from generous donors.

💡 Tips for Donating Blood
• Drink plenty of water before your appointment
• Eat a healthy meal beforehand (don’t skip breakfast or lunch)
• Bring a photo ID
• Plan to relax for a few minutes afterward and enjoy a snack

Blood supplies often drop during busy seasons, so community drives like this are critical to ensuring hospitals have the blood they need when emergencies happen.

🚒 Push-In Ceremony Highlights – Part 2

We’re continuing to share moments from the Push-In Ceremony for Engine 1922 and the unveiling of Medic 1910.

This set of photos highlights more of the equipment and tools carried on our new engine, which help our firefighters respond safely and effectively to fires, rescues, and other emergencies.

You’ll also see another group photo of the men and women of the Covert Township Fire Department — a team committed to protecting and serving our community.

We’re proud to place Engine 1922 into service in memory of Captain Tom Wolters, and grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this important milestone.

🚒 Push-In Ceremony Highlights – Part 1 🚑

We had an incredible turnout for the Push-In Ceremony welcoming Engine 1922 and unveiling our new ambulance, 1910. It was a meaningful day for the department and the community as we celebrated new equipment that will serve Covert Township for years to come.

This first photo set includes a few special moments from the day:

❤️ A memorial display donated by the family of Captain Tom Wolters, honoring his years of service and dedication to the department from 2005–2018.

🚒 Special Day at Covert Township Fire Department 🚑

This past Thursday, the Covert Fire Department held a Push-In Ceremony celebrating the arrival of our new fire engine, built by Spencer Manufacturing in nearby South Haven, along with the official unveiling of our new ambulance.

This new engine is dedicated in memory of Captain Tom Wolters, who faithfully served the Covert Township Fire Department from 2005–2018. Captain Wolters was known for his dedication to the department (and its cleanliness), commitment to the community, and the positive impact he had on those who served alongside him. It is our honor to recognize his legacy as this new apparatus begins its service to the community he cared so deeply about.

What is a Push-In Ceremony?
The push-in ceremony is a long-standing fire service tradition that dates back to the days of horse-drawn fire apparatus. After returning from a call, firefighters would disconnect the horses and physically push the engine back into the station bay so it would be ready for the next response. Today, departments continue the tradition as a way to formally place a new fire engine into service, symbolizing teamwork, readiness, and the continuation of service to the community.

It was a beautiful day for a celebration and dedication. Stay tuned for more photos!

🚒 Lights on. Ready to serve.

Meet Engine 1922, the newest addition to the Covert Township Fire Department fleet, built by in South Haven, Michigan. This engine is equipped and ready to respond to fires, emergencies, and calls for help across our community.

Engine 1922 is dedicated to the memory of Captain Tom Wolters (2005–2018), whose service and commitment to the department helped shape the team we are today.

Stay tuned for details about our upcoming Push-In Ceremony, where we will officially place this engine into service and welcome it home to the station.
