A porch pirate’s early morning delivery route came to a quick stop this morning thanks to some fast work by Covington officers.

Around 3 a.m., a 911 call was received reporting an Amazon package had been stolen from a resident’s front porch. Officers were in the area within three minutes, searching for a man described as wearing a dark-colored bandana over his face, a gray hoodie, beige pants, and carrying a black backpack, as seen in the photo (not the clearest, but it helped point officers in the right direction).

Officers quickly located the empty Amazon box a few houses away, but the search didn’t stop there. Continuing to check the neighborhood, officers found the suspect less than a half mile from the theft location.

During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered the stolen contents of the Amazon package, additional stolen mail, and a pair of brass knuckles. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into SCORE Jail for Theft and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.

Even better, officers were also able to return the stolen mail to the rightful owner before most people had even started their morning coffee.

This is a good reminder that it’s always important to call in crimes in progress. While officers can’t always respond immediately if they are tied up on other priority calls, they will if they are available.

It’s also important to report crimes that are not in progress through the online reporting system. Even when there isn’t an immediate response, those reports help document incidents, track crime trends and patterns, connect related cases, and provide valuable information for investigations.

It’s 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵. As housing development continues to push into forested areas, fast-moving wildland fires can threaten homes and lives. These fast-moving fire fronts require a quick response with specialized apparatus, protective equipment, and specially trained firefighters.

Puget Sound Fire has specialized fire apparatus that are crucial to early extinguishment of wildland urban interface fires prior to a fire moving from brush to structures.
