UPDATE:
Susan Johnson Jackson started the “Stop the Corruption, Petition to remove Chairman Marcello Banes” and the Concerned Citizens of Newton County assisted her.
Susan Johnson Jackson completed the required documents and follow the procedures to get the Petition to remove Chairman Marcello Banes approved by the Newton County Board of Elections & Registration.
In Susan Johnson Jackson petition Application, she cites allegations related to Banes’ personal businesses doing business with the county and alleges misuse of county funds and a strained working relationship between Chairman Banes and District 3 Commissioner Alana Sanders.
Susan Johnson Jackson has 45 days from October 18, 2023 – December 2, 2023, to collect signatures from 30% of the 78,994 registered voters eligible to vote in the 2020 election. The number is 23,698.
On November 4, 2023, the Concerned Citizens of Newton County set up a tent and table outside of the Legion Field Fairground to assist in getting the petitions signed.
From November 4, 2023 – December 2, 2023, the Concerned Citizens of Newton County have been trying to contact Susan Johnson Jackson by phone, text, and email. She has not responded to us. We can only speculate what happened with Susan Johnson Jackson.

This is appalling, District 3 Citizens and every Newton County Citizens should be in an uproar because of Chairman Banes aggressive manner and abuse of power.
Newton County Government received a Federal Subpoena for Chairman Marcello Banes Business Records from January 1, 2018 – Present. The Federal Subpoena is available through public records.
Payments made by Newton County Government to Latreb Logistics LLC, Banes Transport LLC, Royalty Hauling LLC, and Cobb Construction of Covington, Inc.
Chairman Marcello Banes doing business with the County is a conflict of Interest.
