Mrs. Poole’s (pre-k) sunflower seeds had a wonderful week learning all about classroom rules, school expectations, and following directions.

Activities included reading stories, creating "Our Class Rules" anchor chart, a special visit with Mrs. Carter, and a yummy following directions Trail Mi., Learning RPES expectations was full of fun this week

🌟 TEACHER OF THE YEAR SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Our 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year Spotlight Series continues with Ms. Marie Chery, Rocky Plains Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year! 🍎

Ms. Chery has spent all eight years of her career with Newton County Schools at Rocky Plains Elementary, where she teaches all core subjects and works each day to help her students recognize the opportunities a strong education can provide.

Before becoming a teacher, Ms. Chery worked as a case worker in preventive services. That experience inspired her to enter the classroom, where she knew she could have a direct impact on children and help them understand that education can open doors and give them the power to shape their own futures.

One of Ms. Chery’s favorite parts of teaching is witnessing those special “Aha!” moments when a student finally understands a concept that has been challenging.

💬 “That sense of pride and accomplishment that is written all over their little face. It’s a magical feeling.”

Ms. Chery hopes every student who leaves her classroom understands that hard work leads to success and that there is nothing they cannot do if they are willing to try. 💪

And when she’s not teaching? Ms. Chery loves to dance and enjoys traveling to other countries! 💃🌎

We are so proud of our 4th graders! 📚✨ Our students showed tremendous growth on the 2026 Georgia Milestones, earning an incredible **21-point gain in Math!** 📈👏
