ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE – BROADWAY UTILITY PROJECT
The Village of Covington would like to inform residents, businesses, and motorists of an upcoming road closure due to a scheduled utility improvement project.
Location: From the Entrance of the Community Park (140 W. Broadway) to High Street (St. Rt. 48)
Closure Date Will Start the Week of May 4, 2026
This closure is necessary to allow crews to safely complete utility replacement and improvements.
Access:
• Local traffic and emergency services will be accommodated whenever possible.
• Residents within the closure area will maintain access to their properties, though minor delays may occur.
• Community Park can be accessed from West State Route 36.
Detour Route:
Clearly marked detours will be posted. Motorists are encouraged to follow signage and allow extra travel time.
The Village appreciates your patience and cooperation as we complete this important infrastructure improvement. Please use caution when traveling near the work zone.

This afternoon, the Covington Police Department responded to a dog being struck by a car. The dog is a light brown or tan Shih Tzu with a mostly pink, multi-colored collar on with no tags. The dog was transported to the Miami County Animal Shelter where is was found to have not been chipped.

*Suspect in Custody: No Active Threat*

On Sunday, November 9 at approximately 8:25am, a Covington Police Officer and a Miami County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to make a Traffic Stop on a stolen vehicle. The vehicle fled northbound on High St. where the driver lost control and crashed at W. Broadway. The stolen vehicle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

The driver then took off on foot from the scene. A search was begun with assistance from additional Miami County Sheriff's Deputies, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and a K-9 unit from the Piqua Police Department.

A short while later, a subject was found trespassing on two properties on the northwest side of the Village. Responding officers found the subject to be similar to the suspect from the pursuit. Additional information was obtained and confirmed the individual was the suspect who ran from the stolen vehicle.

This subject was the only occupant of the stolen vehicle and he is in custody. There is no active threat to the community.

I would like to thank the Miami County Sheriff's Office, Piqua Police Department, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their assistance with the search. Covington Fire and Rescue for assistance at the crash scene. Finally, thank you to the multiple citizens who's quick actions aided in getting the subject into custody.
