Halloween 2026 is quickly approaching and there are a few important reminders, including a recently implemented downtown curfew for juveniles, that we'd like to highlight:

‼️️On Saturday, October 31, 2026 (Halloween), the juvenile curfew for the downtown area will be 7 PM. As part of our commitment to the safety of the citizens of Covington, this curfew has been instituted to maintain order and ensure the safety of everyone on our historic square this Halloween.
▪️Minors age 16 years or younger may not remain in public places within the Historic Downtown Entertainment District, including the Square, after 7:00 PM unless supervised by an authorized adult or are otherwise exempt under the ordinance.
▪️This ONLY applies to the boundaries of the Covington Historic Downtown Entertainment District which includes the Square.
▪️This area is bound by Usher Street to the north; Elm Street to the east; Conyers Street to the south; and Brown Street to the west.
▪️Outside the Historic Downtown Entertainment District, the City's regular juvenile curfew hours remain in effect (Municipal Code § 9.08.020(B)).

🎃 There are NO city sponsored events on the Square/in downtown Covington for Halloween. Trick-or-Treat on Legion Field will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Legion Field (3173 Mill Street NE, 30014).

🎃 There will be no traffic/street closures for Halloween within the downtown area for Halloween.

‼️Parents and guardians are responsible for their children's safety and behavior at all times. For the complete ordinance regarding Parental Responsibility, please visit https://library.municode.com/ga/covington/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=TIT9PUPEMOWE_CH9.08OFAGMI_9.08.010RECOMI

🎃 Safety First: Pedestrians must use sidewalks. Use marked crosswalks when crossing the street.

Trick or treat responsibly and safely for a scary good time this Halloween season.

Another Lost Wallet Finds Its Way Home — All the Way to Germany!

A tourist visiting Covington from Germany lost her wallet while she was here. Unfortunately, by the time it was found and turned in to CPD, she was already on her way back home.

Our Evidence Techs pride themselves in trying to locate, contact, and reunite people with their found property. In this case, it took a little extra effort and some assistance from the Welcome Center.

Believe it or not, this is the second wallet we’ve reunited with a visitor from another country!

The heavy rains and windy weather that started in our area in the early hours of Saturday, October 10, 2026 have caused multiple power outages and downed trees. Throughout the day, more rain and heavy winds are expected. To stay safe during the storms, please remember:
⚡ Do not go near power lines as they can still be energized. Call 911 to report downed lines. However, do not call 911 to report a power outage. If you are a City of Covington Electric customer, you can report an outage on the outage map at https://cityofcovington.org/index.php?section=outage_map or by calling 770-450-0872.

🚧 Road flooding is expected due to the heavy rains. Do not drive around road closed signs or barricades through flooded streets. Turn around.

🚗 If driving today, please proceed with caution. Slow down and if possible, move over when approaching emergency vehicles, first responders, and utility & public works crews working along roadways.

📻 Monitor your trusted local news source for weather updates. Storm bands may produce tornadoes with little warning.

🚦 In the event of a power outage and traffic lights are out, treat the intersection as a four-way stop or follow public safety instructions.

Stay safe, Covington.

Our hearts are with our neighbors at the Walton County GA Sheriff's Office as they mourn the loss of Captain Tim Tallant.

The loss of a member of the law enforcement family is felt far beyond the walls of one agency. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Captain Tallant’s family, friends, colleagues, and everyone whose life he touched throughout his years of service.

The men and women of the Covington Police Department stand beside our brothers and sisters at WCSO during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Captain. We have the watch from here. 🖤💙🖤

Although 25 years have passed, September 11, 2001 is a vivid memory for those who witnessed the atrocities unfold on television, listened to broadcasts on the radio, or lived through the attacks. With almost 3,000 lives lost and a nation forever changed, Patriot Day, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, honors those who perished and the heroes that emerged on September 11th. As we remember where we were, what we were doing, and more importantly, the lives impacted, may we also remember to honor the memory of those who died at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania, by working together in a spirit of unity in good times and in times of adversity.
