The St. Tammany EDC office is closed today, Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, Freedom Day. Essential personnell from governement agencies across St. Tammany will be available for residents needing storm-related assistance. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, has been celebrated by Black communities in America for over a century and was made an official federal holiday in 2021. The name is a portmanteau, or blended word, of "June" and "nineteenth", and marks the day enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas were informed of the Emanicaption Proclimation granting them freedom - over two years after it was signed. It is a day of reflection on our past and celebration of our future.

In light of the impacts from the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur on our community overnight, we want to remind our residents and businesses that our local and regional officials are continually assessing the impacts of this severe weather.

We will continue to share important messages from our municipal partners throughout the recovery efforts today. We encourage everyone to heed their instructions in order to expedite the recovery process as strong winds and rain bands are still moving across our area.
